As a stare at my Blackberry Storm with a fancy touchscreen that is cracked now due to my carelessness, I am left wondering two things.

First, how much is my deductible on my insurance? (I am willing to bet is is significantly more than the rebate I received but a tad less than the full purchase price)

Second, how many times have i been bitten by bad luck/ buyers remorse for being a early adopter.

I am on my 4th Xbox my 2nd Playstation and my 2nd Wii due to the early adoption curse. But it doesn't stop there Cars/ Computers/ phones, even appliances. I cannot seem to control my impulse to get the new cutting edge piece of technology no matter how many times it turned out to be a power glove or virtual boy (these are the gold standards for early adopter crap tech). Heck, I even had a Turbo graffix 16 and Atari Jaguar. Although I stand behind the alien versus predator game for the latter console.

So if you are interested I would be curious to hear your early adopter stories of pain and torment.

Apply this rule: Never buy anything until it's third generation.

By that mean design revisions of a single product, rather than it's successor.

The first ones will have some hideous design flaw that makes them unreliable. the second ones will have that fixed but this will reveal some other unplanned weakness whilst the third revision will see the major problems resolved.

In the case of microsoft they only ever get as far as revision 2, they just string it out over fifty different updates.

Mini-disc player (still works though)

The very first EeePC (now comparatively shit for equally priced items).

I'd just been thinking about this myself, so I decided to high jack this thread instead of starting my own.

I was thinking of all the things I've bought too soon and then gone on to regret.

I kind of regret buying my 360 because I've now bought a second, first died. However I have got a lot of hours of gaming out of both, so it's not all that bad, even though I'm thinking of selling my Elite.

Then there's my PS3, which for the longest time I considered a waste of my money, however it's worked hard and now it's my primary games machine, as well as a hub for my movie watching.

I also thought that maybe I regreted buying a HDTV too soon but again, I got a good years of use out of it and I've sold it to a friend who still uses it often, so I don't think I regret that either.

The only thing I can think of is the HD-DVD drive for the 360, now there's a useless piece of junk if ever I saw one. I literally have no use at all for it anymore, and I didn't get a whole lot of use out of it in the first place.
My only hope is that in 20 years time, it's worth will rise again, but that feels like a long shot.

Overall, I think I've been lucky. All the things I've almost bought then not and now I'm really glad I didn't. Things like the Wii, that I know I'd never use now. I still want one, I just really struggle to find ways to justify it to myself.

So come on, like the OP said, what do you guys now regret buying? I'm sure there's a few Wii owners out there, right?
