you guys are saying they don't, but on several occasions, i have seen them go into, or get very close to people's ears, the ones that were very close i actually pointed out to them just before they made it. but i dunno if thats just earwigs in Michigan and Idaho, or if everywhere =P

They belong to the order Dermaptera. There are about 1,800 species referred to as earwigs. They average 1/4 to 1/2 inch long. With some exceptions.

At least you don't have to deal with the St Helena earwig which can grow to three inches in length (84mm for you crazy metric users).

No they do not crawl into your ear. In fact no bug knowingly crawls into your ear. Most earwig species eat plants, or other bugs - bugs like fleas and ticks. Something you want dead more. So leave the earwigs alone.

Actually, a bug has flown into my ear before, and I actually had to go to an ear specialist to get it removed. Not fun.
