The books are pretty character-focused as well, each chapter written from a specific character's point of view. It's rare to get a macro-level view of a battle.

...That said, GRRM has put a great deal of thought into how those battles and sieges work: the details for troop numbers, types of units, the defensive benefits conveyed by different kinds of castles and forts (as well as geography), the applications of siege engines. There's a reason people pore over the military minutiae in the books. Played a Westeros risk-style board game a little while ago, the scenario took just over 5 hours, and that's what convinced me there's untapped potential there for strategy play.
Ah, understood. And given GoT?s rampant popularity, I?ll agree it?s surprising this game hasn?t happened, if only to compliment the political/diplomatic strategy of the books/films. Do you think there?s room for such a game to tie in directly to the established main story, or do you think it?d work better as an entirely separate story based on non-character/story event-specific lore and canon?
I know it's not the same, but apparently Crusader Kings 2 has a GOT mod. I haven't played it(I'm still trying to get a handle on the base game), but if any game could do that universe justice, Crusader Kings 2 could.

I think there's plenty of room. The scenario I played involved each of the major Westerosi houses being a possible playable side: Stark, Tully, Lannister, Arryn, Greyjoy, Tyrell, Martell, and Baratheon. You started at your respective main keep, with a number of playable cards & heroes reflecting the canonical strengths of those forces, but from there you could conquer/ ally as you wanted and didn't need to follow the plot they did in the books or show.

I was Baratheon, by the way, and came a damn inch from winning, but I ended up being too cautious when I should have pressed my advantage.

I just remembered another one. Why must I babysit a console (or waste electricity by leaving it running) when I just want to save and quit? Wait for the game to save... wait for the system options to save... now wait for the console menu to load... select 'turn off'.

How about we remember that we live in a age of transistors and just have a 'save and shutdown' option? Select that option, the game saves, the console starts a ten second timer. If the game starts saving again, reset and pause the timer, then start the timer anew when the next save is complete. Repeat until the game doesn't save anything for ten seconds, then turn off the console automatically.

It's almost as if computers were supposed to wait on users, not the other way around.
