Me and tragic stories have a love-hate relationship. I love to hate them, hahaha I hate myself for that. No the real reason is because while I love them, I always feel the need to protect people, so I hate it when they get hurt or die from some unseen (or seen for that matter) thing. Especially in real life.

Anyways, Balefire is a spell of sorts from Wheel of Time that erases the last few things the person, object, what have you did (even killing someone) depending on the strength of the blast. I always feel like I wish I could insert myself in the story and undo or attempt to stop whatever damage might be caused. I know that that would break the stories in two, but I don't like it when people get raped, or murdered. Makes me wanna do something in retaliation.

It doesn't matter, I'm not saying that nothing bad should ever happen, just that I wish I could do something in these situations to help.

If I could write, then there would be fanfic (and it would be as boring as shit).

Games are different because anytime someone does something stupid, I can just hit reload.

EDIT: Not just in the Wheel of Time bookseries. Just in stories in general (movies, books, news, what have you)

MMmm...True-Power-fueled Balefire. When you absolutely, positively, MUST remove something from ever having existed.
I'm confused as to the conversation material of your post...are you saying you wish Balefire wasn't used so much in the books? It's the only way to truly kill a Forsaken.

It isn't used for bad in the present time of the books, there are only references to previous Ages and wars where it was used to destroy cities. Only Rand dares to use it freely, Moiraine was very cautious and the Forsaken are too frightened to touch it.

If you feel protective of people in WoT, please do yourself a favour and never read A Song of Ice and Fire, where if incest, rape or murder isn't mentioned within 5 pages there is a bigger version on its way!

You feel bad when people die, but we need this to happen in books simply because we need a contrast to give the good times more perspective. If the Seanchan hadn't chained Egwene, how would be be able to know what cruelty it causes people, or be able to relate to Egwene when she was released? It is necessary to have bad and good (which, coincidentally, is also the point of the Wheel of Time series- male/female, saidin/saidar, Dragon/Dark One) to make an interesting story.

Me no explain good. Sorry got off topic and way away from my point. I was using balefire as a metaphor for removing the effects of something. In books when something bad happens, sometimes I wish I could reverse the bad events (a la balefire) because I don't like when characters die or get harmed in books. Means I don't like when bad things happen because I'm a wuss.

Yeah, cause and effect. Too bad experience and knowledge is mainly through "No pain, no gain" policy.

One thing I would change is when in A Game Of Thrones
Ned Stark dies. I would balefire those Lannister SOBs.
Don't get me wrong, it's a fucking amazing plot twist.

*Looks at Rand and Ishy.

I happen to love tragedy in books, what's the point if everything was perfect all the time??
I know, I just feel bad when someone I like dies, especially if they are an innocent and not in a battle. Poor Nalesean. Glad Mat got revenge though. And even though most Aes Sedai I lose track of the Namelle sisters and Verin I actually liked.
