Just... wtf?

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.businessinsider.com/pro-trump-group-behind-aoc-protester-calling-to-eat-babies-2019-10

Right wing group suggests that eating babies could help with climatr change. ALC states that there are many better options on the table. Trump and Fox claim that AOC is pro-baby eating because she didn't state specifically that eating babies is bad.

Becuase we all know what would happen if she said that - 'AOC is being mean to those Alt-righters again.'

Anyway, we have another year of this nonsense.

Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words.

The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert.

If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.

The situation reminded me of this comic about the state of politics right now

Wouldn't it be nice if aliens were to blame for everything

Don't be silly, of course we're going to eat the babies. Except for the sweetbreads, which as customary will be the burnt offering to Moloch.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Are you sure they just aren't quoting 'A modest proposal'?

I feel that the press shouldn't even bother to report this shit. All it does is give it more oxygen and make people more annoyed.

Well, yes, but, sweeping generalisation, it's long past time for the media to act as it should.

But it makes corporate media a metric shitload of money, and let's be honest, that's what really matters here.

Specifically why shouldn't they?

Aoc tried to diffuse the situation with someone who seemed unstable. You know, how adults should handle unsavory situations.

Republican figureheads spend an inordinate amount of time using the situation to tie the protester to aoc and to use it to mock her. It uniquely shows the that in a world where adults are pitted against immature people, for some reason immature people get the most attention and win off of it.

Also, mandatory reference is mandatory [https://youtu.be/Z5bnIBhMmD8].

They should bother, but they should report it accurately.

As in

Do you think that's an accurate description of the LaRouche Movement? Really?

AOC handled the situation well and Tucker Carlson acted like a jerk, but when the person pretending to want to eat babies is doing so because they think climate change is a plot to destroy America initiated by the British royal family, I don't think your headline cuts it either.

LaRouche and his movement had a long and extensive association with the Democratic Party, but that doesn't necessarily mean the movement doesn't enthusiastially support Trump in the here and now.

More realistically, however, I'd entirely agree that "pro-Trump" is a rather problematic description. The movement is best described as a cult whose mission is to promote the thoroughly bizarre world-view and cospiracy theories of its late founder, LaRouche. It's hard to characterise on any conventional left-right axis, borrowing liberally from all over the place.

Exactly.

And they don't seem hesitant to flip loyalties at any given moment if their new favorite conspiracy asks that of them.

Until then, they are wearing the pro-Trump hat for their current conspiracy, so pro-Trump is accurate enough right now.

That's incredibly stupid, and I hope if the situation was reversed, You'd call me out on that crap.

If I described Harvey Weinstein as "Obama supporter arrested for sexual crimes", that would be a steaming pile of BS on my part.

Very unlikely it gets reversed. This group wears different skins (Marxist, Democrat, Republican), but it's always a disguise push for an anti-left agenda founded in conspiracy theories. They did the same during Ronald Reagan era as they are doing now.
