Don't be so idiotic and allow parents to parent.

Of course I'm not saying there's a lot of games that hit places like Shawshank Redemption and Schindler's List, but we're still a young artform, still finding our feet and finding out what we can do and where we can go. But shutting us off so soon could deny us the video game equivalent of Shawshank, just because someone's mom can't say no in Gamestop.
Agreed. [http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/ss175/progressinacan/SlowClap.gif] Parents need to be the ones responsible for their kids. If a parent can't be bothered to do some damn research into a game, then they shouldn't blame the industry for when Little Johnny gets his hands on Grand Kill-O-Fest 9000: Gigantic Titties Edition: especially considering that they would have to be the ones to purchase the games for their kids.
I left a little note on my petition which went as follows: 'Children playing R18+ games is the fault of the parents, not the product'. I would have written more, but I had so little space.

I spoke to the salesperson at EB games when I went to sign it and she said there's been a lot of support, hopefully other areas of the gaming industry can get in on this too.

I think the main point is that parents are NOT parenting, Parents are allowing kids to see this stuff, which does ruin minds. I teach children and adults alike, I see the difference between children who can and do play these games, and those that don't. I've been researching the effect of violent games on the mind for most of my adult life. I have played most games since I was 6. There are direct correlations.

Until the human race decides to clean up its act and make sure our children are raised with a better set of values, we are always going to have gangs, drugs, violence, bullying etc, that we have had for a few hundred years. America had a brief period, a small opportunity in the 50's and early 60's to become a a great country, but failed due to drugs, Australia is now battling against the tide of human filth that wishes to push the boundaries on allowing violence to have a greater hold on its populace. Russia is failing against the new found Greed of capitalism unleashed, and the Uk seems to be falling under the sway of sloth, 4 of the deadly sins affecting 4 of the worlds bigger countries, in massive tidal affects.

It will only stop when we educate parents to educate their kids, and expecting them to do it themselves is a delusion, the bible tried that and failed.

Good, this might help.

Well of course, they need the sales from all those M rated titles.

Makes good business sense.
In Australia, "M" is not much.

Our system goes...

G - General, safe for anyone.
PG - Parental guidance recommended.
M - Mature, parental guidance recommended.
MA 15+ Restricted - Mature only, you have to be over fifteen.
R 18+ Restricted - Adults only, you have to be over eighteen.

$5 says Atkinson claims that this is unfair because it's a video game distributor or something stupid along those lines.

On Topic: GO AUUSIE GAMERS! GO! (Yes the caps were necessary)
As he said about the values about the discussion paper. It's all bias because the ONLY people who go to EB are gamers and therefore their opinion is irrelevant and void.

Mmm, I love politicians who says the politics are wrong when they are, time-after-time proven wrong.

Hmmm. A friend of mine saw this, told me about it, and then said "I got permission from (one of our teachers) to hang up some of their (Grow Up Australia) posters around the school". Can't wait. Until then, I did my part by submitting that submission form. But remember guys/gals. Since the only people who care about this are gamers, the statistics are unfair... Still trying to decipher that comment into making some sense, or an argument for Atkinson instead of against.

God damn it took the industry long enough to jump in on this matter. Why haven't game development studios stepped in to fight this?
Little to gain, something to lose. While everyone who shops at EBGames goes "hooray!", they already shop at EB, so there's little difference. It's not like they were a one off who wasn't supporting it and could lose business if they didn't. However, the mothers groups or whoever makes up that 16% may go "I'm disgusted!" and go to whichever big box retailer instead to buy their copies of The Sims 3.

It's just easier to stay out of it, especially when everyone else is, you can't piss anyone off that way. The second you do, you lose their sales. R18+ games aren't a huge part of the market, they generally don't sell that well anyway (Left 4 Dead 2 is a bit of an exception there though, possibly Silent Hill: Homecoming, but both had toned down releases the other 20 or so games on the list weren't exactly hits).

Thus why I'm pretty impressed EBGames stepped up to support their customers, they don't really get much besides the goodwill.

Now we need GAME, Gametraders, etc to join in.

And Kmart. And Big W. And Myer, etc. EVERY store has something to gain here, and so do the people. Soon enough, Matkinson will meet the harsh reality that is... Reality...
