After what was possibly the worst rage quit of my life i think it's safe to say that i will NEVER play another Mortal Kombat game again. I've been a fan of this series since i was seven years old (yes, i ignored the big red '15' certificate but let's be honest, who didn't/doesn't in their younger days?). Words could not describe how happy i was to see the series return to basics, to it's glory days, and up until now i would have said it was the best yet if not for one thing. Shao Khan.
In my many years as a gamer i have never ever felt so screwed by a devloper as i do now. Yes, Mortal Kombat has always had a history of overmatched boss battles but this takes the biscuit! Three hours of my saturday night wasted to a pointless battle with an opponent that is practically unbeatable. I wanted to do nothing but jump into the screen to throttle Raiden and finish the job myself. Unfortunatley that wasn't possible. I understand that fights and boss battles need to be challenging in any game, but giving a final boss the ability to block any attack, do unbelievable damage and cause near one-hit-kills is unacceptable. The developers could at least have included an option to change the difficulty at any point during the fight, but i guess that was beyond them.
Correct me if i'm wrong but i can't help but feel that this is Ed Boon (and the rest of the team at NetherRealm Studios) giving me one giant middle finger. I spent a lot of money on both the game itself and the brand new Dualshock controller which is now in pieces on my floor. That's money i won't get back.
I feel cheated. For someone who has been in the industry for such a long time, i feel Boon could have shown a little more respect to fans of the series. I am also confident that i am not the only one who feels this way. So trust me when i say i will never play another MK game ever again. As far as im concerned this is my final Fatality! I'm Finished!

Nope, you will most definitely try again. I swore off playing Final Fantasy 13 after getting my ass handed to me repeatedly by some big snake-god thing. Three months later I went back and bet him, and I've spent well over 3 hours on the last boss by now.

Edit: Sorry, you broke your controller because the computer bet you a few times? Oh dear oh dear.Perhaps you shouldn't play the game again, or operate heavy machinery, or enter society for a while. That's a lot of anger you've got there.

Shao is easy if you know how to fight him. I always stand on the other side of the screen and spam projectiles at him. That forces him to either taunt or throw the spear, which you can usually duck or block and even then, he taunts so often, it's a safe trade. You just have to watch for the occasional hammer.

Beating Khan is easy, once you recognize his AI loopholes.

With Raiden, just teleport behind him, and Forward Kick him in the back. Keep doing it as much as you can, and he won't touch you.

Up, down (or is down, up to teleport?), O, O.

Easy peasy.

Does Shao Khan knock Seth off the ultimate douche of 2D fighters? Yes. Does it matter when you can own him so easily? Nopers.

Thanks for the help guys. I did try the teleport thing at the time but i usually ending up taking a hammer to the face in the process. If i ever do go back to the game (i will try not do) i'll try the teleport technique again. Maybe it will work after i've cleared my head.

I got him by simply overusing 2 moves. The back forward A (x on ps3) ram and the X X Y combo (box, box, triangle?). Tbh is was mainly the three hit combo and jumping over once you get the timings on when is safe and when is not. For instance if you hit him while taunting with it he will almost always taunt again giving a chance for 2 full combos in a row.

This is the technique i was using. i would have rammed him first, then hit him with a lightning bolt. Then it was just rinse and repeat. But he always managed to catch me with the hammer and mess me up after that.

With Raiden, I just stood at max range as best I could and tossed lightning bolts and when he throws a projectile, immediately teleport and I did the crazy torpedo push back to the other side, rinse and repeat. However when he tosses his hammer you have to delay ever so slightly longer than when he tosses those green spears or you can eat it in the face when you're pushing him back. After a little practice it gets better.

He is a really unsatisfying end boss, he's just cheap and boring. Even people watching you play get bored when Shao Kahn is up. The other fights can be entertaining to watch, but never him.

Whoever designed that fight, is an idiot.

Change the difficulty.

It astounds me, the amount of people who have yet to realize how much this can help. I did it, and waiting for Shao Khan to taunt just to be hit (whatever the dive move is called) pretty easily. It's hidden in the main menu, and it does not affect achievements in any way. Swallow your pride and just beat it.

It's really not that bad. It took me 15 minutes on easy, tops, and I'm absolutely terrible at Mortal Kombat.

If you exit out of Story Mode, and go to Options > Gameplay, it will say Story Mode difficulty, it will probably be Medium if you havent changed it. Drop it to Beginner or Easy and

KICK
HIS
ASS.

Also, just sit and duck underneath his Arrows and wait for him to throw his hammer/ Taunt, then teleport and uppercut

Raiden has an amazing combo that eats through Shao Khan's armor.

FP,BP,FP, Shocker, Back+FK, FP, BP Fly

Pretty much the shocker is a grab move and you will grab Shao Khan. Once its finished land the FK as they fall and you can do the rest of the combo. Once I learned this sequence Shao Khan was putty in my hands.

Eh, Shao Kahn is a typical cheating AI boss like many 2D fighters have had, the trick, as mentioned, is to find loopholes in their AI and exploit them silly.

Not sure why developers would encourage us to exploit glitches but there you go.

You should play against Motaro in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3..
THAT was a hard boss..
None of your special moves be it melee or projectiles do anything to him,and you have to beat him by simple punches and kicks.
He spams his power of teleporting so when you jump to his direction he teleports and punches you from the back while you are still in mid-air.
And every single of his attacks damage you much more than your attacks damage him.

Check this video somebody made:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zq2FNyXBSU

He's lucky because for some reason Motaro stays still without doing anything for some seconds.
At the version I played (SNES) he would never stand still more than 2 secs..

Haha, i remember beating him back i was a kid. I had a lot more patience back in those days. I was so glad to see he didn't appear as an opponent in MK9's story mode!

I don't ask this to patronize you but, you don't play a lot of fighting games do you? This is pretty much par for the course in fighting games. There's a company called SNK, they make the King Of Fighters series and they are so renowned for their bullshit bosses that this phenomenon is called "SNK Boss Syndrome." They all do it though. You don't even know bullshit until you face the eternal champion, my friend. He was invincible, he had 5 full life bars because he had five forms and you had to beat them twice. He had moves that would stun you through a block and take half your life, and if he beat you once? YOU DIDN'T EVEN GET TO CONTINUE. For me that was the worst one. Fighting game bosses however are usually patently cheap.

Some reference material:

From the SNK/Capcom cross-over game: Capcom Vs SNK 2: Shin Akuma and Ultimate Rugal

DOA 4's Boss: Alpha

BlazBlue Continuum Shift: Unlimited Ragna

And so on.

I spent a lot of money on both the game itself and the brand new Dualshock controller which is now in pieces on my floor. That's money i won't get back.
Hey, let's be honest here. That was your decision. Nobody made you throw that controller but you.

Actually i've played a lot of fighting games but admitedly i'm not too good at them. Don't know why i let Khan get the best of me. And you're right, the controller was my fault.

The fucking Apprentice in Soul Calibur IV. 50 FUCKING TRIEs TO KILL HIM!!!!! I finally did it though, and now I've got his jive ass unlocked, for me to use to my dark and twisted will. I only with you could make a custom character with his fighting style. In the end, I just kept holding him and throwing him off the edge of the screen.
