far cry 2 had a lot of potential but the game is very buggy and the malaria mechanic was just plain stupid

if they had done better ai mapping the game would be less anoying because everyone wouldnt be trying to kill you.

Assassins Creed. It had HUGE potential, I remember seeing a gameplay video of it a year before it was released and couldn't wait for it's release. I got it, played it. It was good, most of the things worked well but it was very repetitive. I mean has soon has the beginning of the game ends...
(Spoiler...a bit)

You have to kill 9 dudes, but it's very repetitive and boring after you've killed about half of them. I mean all you do is go to a city, do "mini quests" for assassin dudes, get back to the main dude, he let's you kill the target, you go there kill him watch a cutscene of him talking and that's the rest of the game. Assassins Creed 2 is coming, so there is room for improvement. Can't wait for it tho, has repetitive has the 1st one was it was pretty damn good.

I was hyped for Far Cry 2, when I saw the gameplay videos I couldn't wait for it. Then it came out and it got pretty boring after a while. I liked the malaria effect for a weird reason tho.

Hellgate London. ;d Kinda glad I didn't trust the hype.

Jedi Academy.

I LOVE this game don't get me wrong, however there is something about the double bladed lightsaber, the dual bladed stance, and the speeder bikes that seemed so...unfinished.

Not to mention that MANY of the moves with certain saber stances can only be pulled off by sheer accident and when they do they rarely work. At one point after I beat Rosh I reverted back to the single bladed ligthsaber stance with all three styles and found myself more easily able to kill every single Sith I came across whereas with the other two combat styles it felt as if it was a bit of a challenge and I had to save more frequently.
Try the "sheer luck" in saber duels over Multiplayer. You won't win just randomly running around and stabbing people. And God forbid you use the ever so useful Tumble + Slash combination - a good player will switch to Strong and slash you from behind.

Oh, oh, I know - Rune. Nice game, but too easy. Runes are rarely used (no pun intended), and even then you use a power meter. Which doesn't regenerate. The ability to dismember and chop off limbs one by one (including head) is/was very impressive. Never have I seen such an intuitive fight system. Also, game is really bloody.

But it feels a bit unfinished... Sure, there was an add-on. But now I know why it didn't do poorly amongst the critics.

I'm going to go with Yoshi's Island DS. After the original Yoshi's Island on the SNES (my second favorite game for the SNES) it was quite a shame to see the series take a backwards step in terms of playability and fun.

It's a shame because the new game on the DS had a steep learning curve and was very difficult in places, and the split screen mechanic did work well when it came to puzzles and such, but it lacked the innovative sparkle the original game had, and one which had a lot of potential to be a very good platforming game turned out to be good, but not great. Pity.

I was incredibly psyched for System Shock 2, but then I couldn't quite grasp what the fuss was all about. Yes, it was a good, bordering great game, but I wouldn't hold it in such high esteem as most of the other fans (notice how I don't call them fanboys: they actually provide very reasonable arguments for their love of the game)

Bit of the Super Mario Brothers effect. It was the first game ever like that. There have, since its release, been numerous games that raised the bar and did several things better. But for most people who played it back in the late 90's when it came out, none of use had ever seen anything like it.

Also the incredibly one-dimensional gameplay ruined it for me. Kill this guy or blow up that convoy--these are your only two options. I didn't even finish it because I knew it would be more of the same.

I actually enjoyed Far Cry 2 for the most part, but despite my appreciation it decided that I would never get to finish it. First the disc gets scratched for no apparent reason, then a patch made the game unplayable, and last time I played it my save games became corrupted because my completion percentage became too high. I'm still waiting for that February patch, Ubisoft.
