Sorry Mr. Norton! You don't get to ride the big cross-fanbase moneytub we're tooting out to all the fans here!

Quite frankly I can think of several better roles for an actor like him than the Hulk. Sure he could do well, but having to live up to preconceptions about what the Hulk should be...well...let's just say I think Norton's acting is far too good to be limited by that kind of requirement.

What a ridiculous reason not to cast him. He's not the type of actor to pine for screan time. I mean in the hulk the major scene he obviously had nothing to do with. In fightclub he seemed to have no problems letting pitt get his screne time. I'm reconing somethings gone on between him and the director. Fucking ridiculous. Him and Downey Jr would have made that film. Both quality actors. And it would have been great to see their personalities clash.
Word the fuck up, mang.
Or "This," as the kids say.

Good, he was the worst part of the newest Hulk movie. No emotion whatsoever yet he takes himself so seriously.

Bummer that Norton will not be in the Avengers, I really like him as an actor. I'm more bothered by the fact that Joss Whedon is writing/directing the Avengers movie, because out of everything he has done I only ever liked Firefly/Serenity. I though Buffy and Angel were both inane and insipidly stupid. Also...Whedon wrote Aliens:Resurrection which was FUCKING PATHETIC! The AvP movies are cinema gold compared to the story of Aliens:Resurrection. I don't have a lot of faith in Whedon not fucking up the Avengers.

Seriously hope I'm wrong though.

Saw this coming ages ago. Norton clashed with Marvel over the final cut of the Hulk, he apparently felt there should have been more time spent getting to know Bruce Banner... which I would agree with 100%.

Sure Norton might be tough to work with, but considering he's one of the best actors of his generation, he's worth it. They might as well just call the Avengers Iron Man 3 at this point.

In his defense, Joss Whedon did manage to make Cyclops interesting for a couple of issues of Astonishing X-Men, which is quite the impressive feat.

Sounds like BS. I hate that they recast warmachine in iron man 2, and this is just frickin weak. Marvel makes a crapton of money off the damn movies the least they could do is offer us a little continuity. Its like the guy who played the human torch being captain america, I think that's retarded as well. And them rebooting spiderman to make some teeny version, what the crap is that about? They could have at least given me a carnage movie first. /wrists. I'm like done with marvel.

Actually, he's kind of known for it. The director of American History X wanted to have his name taken from the credits due to Edward Norton trying to force him to give him more screen time. I love him as an actor, but he sounds like a real egomaniac, and a prick. Still, this is a bummer. He's a great actor.
Not only that, he's also known for insisting on taking part in the production path of the movies he's in. Making important decissions or at least having a say about stuff. Which is not exactly how Marvel is working.
See: Iron Man 2: Making Of.
Downey Jr. had a huge part in the production and desision making process of Iron Man 2, and the director and producers enjoyed his input and enthusiasm.

I am afraid you may be mistaken.

Wasn't the whole fucking point of the Hulk that Bruce Banner was quiet and reserved, where his alter ego was destructive?

Banner is not supposed to be energetic, he is meant to be rational and reclusive. That was the whole fucking point.

err is anyone else reading that as "Edward Norton is a fucking pirma donna and no-one wants to work with him"? That's what I'm getting out of the quotes.
Yeah, that's the impression I was getting as well.

Sounds to me like they were badmouthing Mr Norton in this announcement.
Hell yeah, there's some backhanded statements in there for certain. Bruce Banner is a pussy anyway, I'd be happy if, when the shit starts to go down, The Hulk just popped up out of nowhere and then just pissed off once everything was flattened. All the action of Hulk, none of the angst of poor little Brucey.

I don't know the workings behind Marvel, but some stupid shit be happening there! Norton was a great pick for the Hulk. Don't fix what isn't broke!!

Another thing, changing actors for a sequel should be a crime. Yeah I know the first Bruce was horrible (in fact that whole movie sucked, so that may be the only exception) but at least stick with the same actor/actress for the entire series!

All I can say is that I hope the person who decided this gets a burning case of the ghonnaherpasyphylaids!

Wow, something must've gone down. I like Edward Norton as an actor, but yeah, from things I've heard and the really, really obvious meaning of this press statement, it sounds like he's a bit too jerkass for the director.

He actually WANTED to play the role. That annoys me. I like when actors stick to their roles. Its why I respect David Hayter so much even though Ive never played MGS.

I've heard hes really stuck up about having director powers in his movies and can understand why they would recast him if hes up in Marvels face trying to tell them how the movie will go (for better or for worse) Marvel declined with its own image in mind. Its too bad but maybe for the best, I don't want a Avengers movie that has the hulk the centerpoint of every camera shot for 2 hours +.

I've heard he is a real arse off screen. I will agree he is a fantastic actor, but it's said he snaps at fans for just saying hi in the street. Not asking for an autograph, photo or coming up to him saying how great he is. Just saying hi and moving on... yeah I can see why they say he doesn't play well with others.
Maybe they should just take a camera out and follow him down the street waving at him and saying "hello" so when he freaks out on them they can use it as Bruce Banner hulking out...would be a great ^_^

I liked Norton in the role. He would've been perfect in an ensemble cast, I think that statement is a facile argument.
