If you're ok with the idea of having bits of you running around out there -- some people find the idea of having "children" out in the world a bit unsettling -- then I say do it. Being able to help people have a child is a wonderful gift. Just make sure you're well educated about the procedure, the risks, and possible side effects.

Actually both my parents are geneticists and, although it isn't why I'm doing this, there is a part of me that quite like the idea of passing on my genes without having to do any of the work. Especially since at the moment I don't want to have kids of my own.

I think that egg donation is a fantastic thing to do. I've signed on as an organ doner, and will give blood at the first possible opportunity. I would consider doing it myself (like you I can't see myself having children) but due to a medical condition I'm not sure that I would be able to.

But good on you =)

So about 4 years ago I read an article about the shortage of egg donors (and sperm donors but there's nothing I can do about that) and decided that, since I wasn't going to be using all or possibly any of them and the idea of someone finding me 18 years later didn't bother me, I would donate some of my eggs. Several of my aunts and uncles have had trouble conceiving and one of my cousins came from a donor egg so I feel like this is my way of helping other people in their situations.

I decided to wait until I was 20 so I had plenty of time to think about it and make a more mature decision. I turn 20 in less than a month and I definitely still want to do this but I would also like to hear other people's input. Obviously I've talked to family and friends but I figure the more people I talk to the better. I'd like, if possible, to hear from other donors and people who benefited from donations but anyone's opinion is welcome. Thanks.
sweetheart, it's alittle tougher for us as you know.. we cant just go into a little room full of hustlers, and porn and wank in a lil cup.. then get a lil cup of Orange juice and a cookie after like guys can " I wish it were that simple"

but your a mature woman...I think it really comes down to what you really feel yourself. Now I'm sorry if this starts getting alittle " Zeny".

That you already think of it this deeply, and have for so long speaks to the nature of yourself...you know the answer already, you conscious mind may be trying to throw out little waves of doubt, or second guessing, but deep down the answer is already set.

you have a chance to ease the suffering of other families elsewhere...and actually if something were to happen to you later on in life, you can also recover your own eggs for yourself.

It is a noble idea love...I already have two sons...and I too consider donating a fairly large amount soon enough ( mind you I'm turning 29 on the 11th so I still have a short amount time to decide if I want one more) but oooh think how nice it would be as we get older to have those lil buggers out of us so much faster.

Thank you all for your comments. I hadn't expected people to be so supportive (especially on the internet) and even though I was going to do it anyway it means a lot to find out that most of you approve.

why do you hate eggs so much?
I just do. Everyone seems to rave about how good eggs are, but I can't stand 'em. Eggs, omelettes, you name it, to me, they taste... evil.
Finally, someone who shares my point of view. Eggs are hideous, why anyone would want to eat them (unless baked into a nice cake) is beyond me.....

From what I've heard, it's quite painful. But if you're willing to go through that, and don't mind the possible impact on your future life, then go for it.

I'm not sure what country you live in, but around the time I was considering donating eggs they offered a few hundred dollars in the USA.

I've thought about donating, as well. As long as you're aware of the possible complications (from the fertility drugs) and you're still willing to to take the risk, I'd say go ahead and do it.

Shortage of sperm donors? Really? You give me 1000 and I'll get you about 200 guys who will do it for fun.

It's a lot easier decision to be a sperm donor, than an egg donor because of the limited number of ovaries a woman has in her lifetime. If you're prepared to do it and have thought about it enough - go for it.
I think you mean 'ova' not 'ovaries,' we have two ovaries but an insane amount of ova. I agree, go for it. I'm honestly thinking about it myself when I'm legally old enough (if they actually do this in Canada I'm not sure, I'll have to check). I personally think it's a pretty neat idea.

They don't pay you in the UK and the idea of someone finding you when they are 18 is more than enough to put off a lot of guys. How many do you know who would do it under those conditions?

I'd say research around the procedures, find out as much information as you can and then go for it. You didn't mention whether you have done this so I suggest you do before making an informed decision. Good luck!
