I've always wanted to visit Egypt, just to see the pyramids. I feel that everyone at least once in their life should see what marvels these things are. Think about it, to construct something of that magnitude using only raw slavepower, that's pretty impressive in my books.

What's stopping me from visiting is that Egypt to me is considered a dodgy country. So I'd like to ask you guys:
Have you been to Egypt and visited the pyramids?
How much did it cost?
How long did you stay?
Where did you stay?
And finally, were you or any of your friends/family who you visited Egypt with, pickpocketed, taken hostage, used as a human shield, robbed at gun/knife point, stoned(the bad kind (where stones are used)) or raped? Or all of the above.

Thanks

Bloody hell, you have some serious issues if you think all THAT's going to happen to you...

And no, I haven't been, but I have been to Tunisia which isn't too far away (just a few countries to the west and you're there). Tunisia was perfectly fine. So I'm sure Egypt will be too :).

My mum and her partner went to Egypt a couple of years back, other then the rediculous temperatures they seemed to have a great time without being killed / taken hostage.

As far as I can remember everyone there was as nice as possible to them due to how much they appreciate tourism.

I've been to Egypt, although we didn't go to see the pyramids as we were a good couple of days away from them. I thought it was fine, obviously the pyramids are going to be quite a touristy location so I doubt you'll have to worry about street crime too much. Just be sensible and don't carry round a sack full of gold everywhere you go.

I've never been, but I do know that its not as bad as you think it is.
A friend went there last year, and he had a good time.

Just use common sense, and you should be fine.

My auntie went on a cruise down the nile a few years back, though there was a warning to stay in cabins at one point due to the ferry being shot at from the bank. And people say that P&O dont offer excitement

you know, you shouln't believe everything you see in movies or news. Islamic law is really really harsh so don't do anything illegal yourself if you go.
