So, people who've played it, what are your thoughts on this game?

I saw it for 20 bucks today, and picked it up, but won't get a chance to try it until the weekend.

Thoughs?

I played the demo.

Nothing impressive. Despite the interesting art style, when you actually play the game it feels very plastic and artificial. Combat mechanics weren't very deep either.

I got the game recently and I'm having fun with it. The combat is simplistic but functional and enjoyable. It hasn't got boring yet and I've gotten a fair bit in to the game. the main draw is the aesthetic, which is consistently amazing. There are a few little things about the game which frustrate me though. Sometimes the visual style of the game makes the 3D platforming a real pain in the arse. Makes it really hard to judge distances. Also they often throw bosses from later in the game at you in fights which you don't appear to be able to win. It's really annoying being put up against enemies which you get slaughtered by for no apparent reason who then piss off, only to come back again over and over. I ended up wondering when I was going to get in to a boss fight I was actually supposed to be able to win.

Brilliant art style, decent enough combat, and excellent bosses.

It does get awfully repetitive sometimes though. Luckily that tends to somewhat subside after the first few chapters. The intro chapter especially is really a painful slog.

Actually you can win against those bosses, but it doesn't do much other than your own bragging rights.

It's pretty silly if you ask me.

The art is very nice, but on the whole it is pretty empty and gets repetitive real fast.
$20 is a fair enough price, $60 launch day was a real joke however.

NO! Don't!
As a guy that tries to get into games from the east, this did not help.
I don't know where to start bagging on the game, from its general gameplay or crappy story line.

I loved it, personally. It's not perfect, but certainly worth trying out.

Pros: It's undeniably beautiful, the story is interesting, the combat is pretty fun, the bosses are fantastic, the music is brilliant, and the 2D platforming sections are really enjoyable. It's also extremely unique and creative.

Cons: The story is, while interesting, quite poorly told in my opinion. Additionally, combat, while fun, is simplistic and can get old rather fast.

On the whole though, an excellent title, and a very memorable experience!

Well....
Do you enjoy spending time in art museums?

The game isn't just pretty, its an attempt at creating an aesthetic work of art that one experiences through the video game format. If you accept that and dive in with as much art logic as you do game logic, its a really enjoyable title. El Shaddai simply does not resort to a lot of the usual ways of rewarding players, so you're in it just for a game, though, you're going to probably find it lacking in a lot of areas.
