Ok so fairly straitforward, I have oblivion on the 360, and I really liked the game. I would like to start a new character and get back into the game but the loading times are fucking murderous. My cousin says the PS3 version loads faster, but then again he's a total sony fanboy. So is this true?
for reference, the loading times are roughly:
Loading your character when the game first starts: about 45 seconds added to whatever the zone you're in when you load
Entering your standard room of a house: about 5-10 seconds if it's small and empty, but can take up to 25 if there's a lot of NPCs like in guild halls and such.
Entering an area of a fortress/dungeon with a large number of NPCs: 20 seconds
Entering a semi crowded town/city: between 20-45 seconds
Entering the outside world/spread out countryside: 5-10 seconds, but you'll run into points where the game will stop and give you some "loading area" text from time to time.

This gets really annoying for quests where you have to constantly go in and out of houses and things of that nature. So if anyone here has the PS3 version, is it any better or is it pretty much the same?

Well, the PC version loads in a couple seconds if you have the recommended specs. I don't know about the PS3 version, but the PS3 does have better overall specs, so I would assume that the loading times are at least marginally better.

I had it on PS3 (GOTY edition), and I don't remember load times of that length. Average loading was 3 - 5 seconds for exploration, and I don't remember seeing any above 15 sec. apart from the startup load. Does it install anything on the 360 hard drive?

You can find info on it here:

Oblivion just has long, frequent loading screens, you gotta deal with it.

It's even worse on the 360.

Why won't Bethesda let us fast travel from indoor locations??

You CAN install it but takes like, 7 GB and My 20 GB 360 hard drive doesn't have the room for that. I don't know if that will speed it up at all though, because IIRC the PS3 will install the game onto the hard drive and then use it to speed up the loading on the disc, where the 360 just sort of plays it from the hard drive and only uses the disc for the startup menu to confirm that you own the game.

strange, i have it for 360 and the loading times for me are nothign neer that, never above 15secs at maximum.

I have an arcade with 60gb hardrive, maybe the HD effects it slighty, idk. if you do have a HD install it to your HD, this will reduce loadings slightly (you can do this from the dashboard)
I havent done this because mines full, but its reduced some games loading times, like fallout 3.

Ah, alright I'll probably pick up the PS3 version then. No reason to keep this thread alive any more. Thanks for the help everyone.

It'd make the game's main questline even shorter not having to follow every area twice. But you do have a point with the fast travel. Why give it to us if we can't use it indoors?

I didn't have any loading screens when i played it on the pc.

Get the PC version if you're worried about loading times; also there are epic moddage mods for modding. (PS3 might have mods too... I heard something about that....)

you could try cleaning the disc
i had a scratch on my disc that made it take around 15 minutes to enter a town
when i got a new one the load times went back down
try it

Fetch quests are infuriating in Oblivion, in and out of buildings totalk to NPCs, loading loading loading... ugh.

Fingers crossed that TES5 has fast travel to and from indoors...

I hated the fetch quests. But what i hated more was the quest where you have to talk to the guy in jail, fake the death/kill his wife and bring him the amulet. After opening the box there was only 40 gold. Seriously. What the heck? That was pointless.

If you chose his side the wife attacked you, you killed her and took her amulet, it was still kinda crappy as far as I can remember.

Definately not worth sitting through 7 loading screenss.

While I don't really like Oblivion as much as I used to, if you have a PC that can handle it, get the PC version. At least then you can get mods that make the game better.

no idea for the playstation, but i think it might be a problem with your console, are your other games takin a while to load?

also if you want you can put it on your hard drive, it does help alot

I don't really remember any load times on the PS3 except when you enter new areas. Even then it was only like a few seconds.

Hehe... that made me chuckle.
