AngryJoe didn't even get to level 20, the level cap is roughly 150 (50 levels, then 10 veteran levels roughly equivalent to 10 levels each.

maybe you should try things out rather than listening to people fishing for views by doomsaying
Considering that MMOs generally have a lot of their better content early in order to get players to stay subbed if the first 20 levels are poor it can only get worse.

You know, as someone who games on consoles, I'm not particularly torn up by this development.

Well that's neat.

Now the console version will probably coincide with the inevitable Free-To-Play implementation.

Level 20 and its boring? How is someone being bored by level 20 a good mark for a game?

"guaranteed to make you regret your purchase 13.3% into the game!"
To be honest there are plenty of good games that start slow and boring but then get better by the end, although I seriously doubt an MMO is one of them.
WORLD OF WARCRAFT BABY. Bet you don't even lift your weight in the 25H WF SoG, and bet you didn't even reforge out of that 10% hit rating. Do you even have DBM installed? Using default UI? Casul Flex Raider. WRATH RUINED WOW BEFORE BC EVER CAME OUT, HARK!

Ahem... (You're fine :D)

OT:
I've got little to say outside of having played the beta and marking it as a fairly bland experience. I don't know if I'd ever want a blander one on the consoles. I don't hate it by any means, but eh, not compelling to me personally.

So they might as well try to finish their game by the time they put it on consoles, and do it for the PC as well...

Oh well thank god I didn't buy it. Is the morag tong in? So that we have at least one assassin guild? What about Camonna tong? That skinhead gang that sells drugs in morrowind?

I need a criminal element in my elder scrolls. An actual one that matters, like in morrowind.

Judging from what i seen of the missions, they are a mess. Its no surprise. Angry joe posted a video on this, and the "epic" in the elder scrolls was destroyed. I mean, look at the part where they set fire to the ships. at 27:20.

Embarrassing.

if ESO gets on consoles at all, I will be majorly surprised.

ESO is like the PC version of GTA V. A buggy mess with tacked on online features that only cause pain to the devs and players alike. If they stuck to single player, we wouldn't have been in this situation.
I hate to be a jerk to you, but anyone who uses Angry Joe's review of the game clearly hasn't done enough research into the game to make any kind of statement on it.

Angry Joe's review uses deceptive and downright false information, exagerates the little problems of the game to a monumental proportion, and completely glosses over all of the positive aspects of the game. He had a very clear idea of what he wanted the game to be before it launched and his review is so laughably biased that its pathetic. This video was a VERY carefully made anti-hype piece on ESO for the channel views. And it worked.

I lost all respect for Angry Joe (not that I had that much to begin with) when I watched this video about ESO.

As someone who has been playing and thoroughly loving ESO so far, I can tell you that the game is far, FAR from perfect as it is right now, but the problems that AJ brings up are almost all invalid or WAY overstated. If you want me to go into a more thorough explanation for the pros and cons of the game just let me know and I will, but just know that AJ's review is complete and utter bullshit and you should not use that video for anything other than fuel for facepalming to.

On the topic of the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood. Both of those are coming sometime this year as well as a full justice system. In the reddit AMA they did last week they teased that there would be a bounty system for killing NPCs and stealing and that players could join the guards to track down criminals and such. This IMO will make the game much more dynamic and add something that I don't think that many MMO's have.

This game has only been out for a month. It's not perfect but it's off to a promising start. Everyone please stop with the anti-hype for it and actually look seriously at it instead of falling for the anti-hype. If you want a fairer review for ESO please watch this video which I think is the fairest and most objective look at the game.

Thanks.

ha, so they expect you to buy two versions, a subscription fee, and additional transactions?

that shit is ridiculous

edit: i am aware that it is discounted, but it is still kinda scummy. it doesn't clarify if the data will be stored on a cloud, or if the character will just be imported once. if it's the latter, it's not even worth it

How exactly is it scummy? They don't "expect" you to buy anything, they're simply giving an option to people if they don't want to have to wait the full 6 months to play the game but were waiting for the console launch. If you'd rather wait 6 months then feel free to do that. It's a pretty generous offer and something that they didn't have to do. If you were really gung-ho about the console version at least now you have an option to play the game on PC first instead of waiting 6 months.

Also you do realize that the $20 transfer cmes with ANOTHER free month of subscription right? So it's basically 5 dollars more and you get a month subscription and get to transfer our character to your console of choice. I haven't seen any other company offer something like that before.

Yeah that's so scummy of them. Maybe they should do what every other company does and tell their consumers "tough shit, either wait your time or buy the PC version if you dont want to wait and then buy it again for full price on consoles and start from scratch again." That's so much less of a scummy thing to do.

Opinions, gotta love em.

I for one completely agree with Angry Joe. And I've played the game for a fair bit.
Playing with other people who are not exactly on the same quest as you are is tedious at best. I started a character with 2 other friends. We played together for a bit, so far everything was fine. Then, we each took differently timed lunch breaks, and decided we'd continue to quest and just catch up.

This lead to the stupid, and unforgiving case that in some zones my friends would suddenly dissapear. Phase out, because I already did a quest there and was in a different phase. I just saw their floating arrow. I didn't see the mobs they saw, I couldn't help them, I couldn't even heal them.
That, right there, is the game's most stupid and biggest flaw. It breaks up parties. There is no excuse for this.
"But WoW has that too." No, WoW has a different phase for after a whole Quest chain. Not single quests.

Then there is the fact that so much classic Elderscroll content has been outright removed to make this into a bland MMO.
Where are the Illusion spells? Stealing is now rumoured to be added. Alteration spells? Conjuring has been utterly squashed.

Sorry, but to me, this game feels like nothing more then an empty, cashgrabbing, formulic, dead-inside, raised corpse. (another thing removed from the game)

Jesus Christ. That review was more like a monotone advertisement than anything else.

http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/the-elder-scrolls-online

You love ESO? Well look at that. Because not everyone does. For one one that loved it, there is another that hated it. Its only 10 points above Goat Simulator, an indie game meant to be garbage. Its on the same level as Banished, a cheapo game made by one man. Every single thing that he talked about could be done in Skyrim, a much cheaper and objectively better game. In fact, all the MMO bonuses could be done in F2P or more established MMOs like Planetside 2, EVE, DCUO, or APB. Or they can be done in online games like Day Z, Rust, etc.

If he took out all the obvious stuff present in all modern MMOs like crafting, no classes, and PVP it would be entirely made up of the same shit that Angry Joe talked about.

And I did look into the guy, he owns a guild. In ESO. So of course he is going to be "fairer" if it gets people to possibly join his guild.
Umm... Angry Joe also made a guild so that argument means precisely nothing.

I'm not even going to reply to your argument about metacritic.

And ESO does a lot of things different/better than other MMOs that it deserves credit for. It also does a lot of things worse, and I will freely admit to that. But an MMO isn't simply a checklist. you cant just look at an MMO and say:

Crafting- check
combat-check
raids-check
quests-check
PVP- none

4/5- 80%
It's the execution that matters, and the crafting system in this game is one of the best I've seen in any game ever, not just counting MMOs. The combat, while it has some issues like the sometimes unresponsive weapon toggle, some skills and passives not working properly, and some skills being unbalanced, I still think that the combat is better than Skyrim and better than most other MMO's that I've played (full disclosure: I haven't played that many MMOs)

Questing feels like it has a purpose. The fully voiced (albeit sometimes poorly) characters and meaningful stories do way more for me than most MMO's "Kill 10 x and bring me their kneecaps" or even Skyrim's "my magical macguffin got stolen by bandits and is now at the end of a dungeon two thirds of the way across the map" quests. Quite a few of the quests offer meaningful and often very grey decisions to make. While these decisions rarely affect more than the immediate consequences of the quest and the characters involved they still make for interesting choices that feel important.

I could go on about the positives in more detail if you like but I don't want to bore you.

I also want you to know that I'm not just a blind fanboy for this game. There are a lot of things this game does poorly and needs to improve on. There is no PVP dueling or battlegrounds, just the massive open world battleground of Cyrodiil. The zones aren't always paced very well and for completionists like me, I always end up overleveled for my PVE quests before I fully finish the zone. The games grouping mechanics can be wonky. I haven't personally had issues with them because I only play in groups with my girlfriend and we only play on those characters together, but for people who may have leveled separately, it can be a pain to group. There are quite a few glitches and skills that dont work properly but these are being dealt with. The game had pretty bad bot and gold seller issues, however the devs are taking active measures against them including sending GMs out to manually ban them. The veteran content seems to be poorly thought out and a bit lacking so far. I could go on.

I'm not blind to the issues this game has, but I can tolerate them because this is, overall, a GOOD game. And it doesn't deserve anywhere close to the amount of (mostly) blind hate it's getting in my opinion. This game is definitely not for everyone, and it's definitely not Skyrim Online, but it is a good game. It is not, in my opinion, a cynical cash grab. The devs for this game are listening to the feedback and criticism and responding openly to it. They did an AMA just last week and answered a lot of helpful questions. With an attitude like I'm seeing from these devs, I have a lot of hope for this game getting better and winning people back eventually. I just really wish people would give it a chance instead of just ruling it out as a cynical cash grab. If it's not your thing, fine don't play it, don't waste your money on it, I understand.

I just want to reply to your post to mention a few things. Your criticisms are valid. Those are real issues that the game has. However they are taking strides to fix them. Do I think that the PC version should have been delayed a few months to iron out more of the problems with the game? Probably. However they have been doing a fairly good job so far with updating and fixing bugs and a ton more fixes are coming in the next content patch.

Zenimax has already announced that in one of the next few patches they will be attempting to fix the grouping situation. I dont know how exactly they plan to do this, but they are working on it.

They have also confirmed that they will be adding spell crafting to the game and that it will follow the traditional spell classes of elder scrolls games (conjuration, alteration, restoration, illusion)

And that the thieves guild and dark brotherhood will be coming with a new justice system. The justice system is still in an early prototype so they havent released too many details but that will be upcoming in a few months hopefully.

So maybe you should check back every few months to see if those issues are fixed to your satisfaction and resub if they do get fixed :)

I'm gonna go back to happily enjoying my game though. Have a good day :)
