I seem to be coming up with quite a few threads lately, huh? Well, here's another one for you to sink your teeth into!
So that's the basic idea - a good film will really help my election campaign.
So if you have any ideas, or are interested in knowing more about this whole thing, then please comment and let me know. I really need some good ideas for a video, and I'll be thinking of some too, so let me know your thoughts!
First, a bit of background info - feel free to skip this if you aren't interested. At my student union, every year we have democratic elections for the six executive positions who run the union, taking a year out as a full-time paid job (£16,000 for the year) and running the union as students, trustees, and effectively company directors. There are six positions in the union, and one for the student newspaper (as editor). These positions are:
- Welfare Officer
- Communications and Internal Affairs Officer
- Education Officer
- Equality and Diversity Officer
- Activities Officer
- Community Officer
Now here's the main point of the thread. In the past, campaign videos have been pretty damn important for people running. Last year, one guy did a video for his election that was a parody of the theme to The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air, changing the lyrics to reflect his manifesto and policies. The guy who got elected to Community Officer for this year won his campaign solely on his video. Videos are pretty important in these elections.
This year, I'm getting involved. I'm running for Activities Officer, which would basically mean that if I'm elected, I'll be responsible for over 300 clubs, societies and sports teams, and activities in general in the union - a big job given the importance these societies have to our budget and the finances of the student union in general. Not to mention the whole Executive position responsibilities, being a Union Trustee and so on. And at least for the video, I should have an advantage - I'm on the committee (as treasurer) for the Film-making Society. However, I'm having trouble coming up with a good idea for what my video should entail.
Which is where you come in. Obviously this won't mean anything to most of you, in my time on The Escapist so far I've known of maybe two or three people who also go to my university in Leeds. And one of those is on Facebook and already knows I'm running for election. But at least, perhaps, you guys could help me here. What I want to hear are your suggestions for what my video could entail. It needs to be something smart, funny, memorable, and something that people will really enjoy watching. But it also needs to be something that gets my points, my manifesto, across clearly and makes sure that people know what they're voting for if they vote for me.
