A move that will make it even easier for cops to kill with a taser, nice.

OT: This is incredibly cool, I'm making one tomorrow.

This is sounding pretty cool. Although, how would you defend against it (I doubt it would be kept out of public, and by extension criminal, hands), and how much will it cost? Still, awesome.
They'll do what they do with that type of thing, outlaw it's use outside of law enforcement, and arrest and jail anyone who is caught with one. It's actually quite terrible. For instance, if you are caught in possession of body armor, you can be arrested and charged with criminal mischief. Even if you don't do any serious time, you will be heavily fined, your gear confiscated, and you better believe they will search and seize anything they want from you at that point.

Why do I get a feeling that more people will now join the police just to get their hands on those electric fists.

I think the tasers they have now is more practical. If a criminal had a gun, just how many rounds do you think he could unload into a cop trying to get at him with an electrified glove? Of course, it depends on the distance between them, but still...

Now, prison? That's a different story.

Heh I was building "power gloves" as a kid all the time, but my designs discharged on contact, did get quite a few jolts from those tho not to mention the angry looks from unwilling test subjects :D

This thing needs to be low price tho, it's only really usable as a last resort defense not a primary take down option like a tazer.

Why would the police not be wearing it? Isn't that the same as saying a gun is utterly useless you happen to have it in your hand in advance?

I don't think this is intended for the wider public.
To be fair, he has a point. A taser is an excellent less-lethal device to subdue a suspect at a safe range for the officer. This new device takes away a very important part of the taser; being at a safe distance.

For example, a while ago there was this thread here about arming British cops, containing a video of about 8 officers being unable to stop a machete-wielding madman. A taser would've stopped this guy dead in his tracks without putting the officers in harm's way. However, with this awesomely cool gauntlet they still have to get into melee range. In this particular case, into huge-and-sharp-knife range. Yeah I'd rather use a regular taser.

Still, I reckon it works as a last resort. The whole mobile crime lab thing made me more impressed though. It's like a Pip Boy for cops.

Want with the fury of a thousand suns. Next step is the Fallout Ballistic Fist. Seriously though, someone needs to get a picture of the original device in action. Punching a Mountain lion with an electric fist? Your argument is now invalid.
they already developed a device similar to the ballistic fist (forgot the name) but ti,s used in Inglorious bastards

I wonder how many police officers are going to name their attacks ( http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CallingYourAttacks )

I want to know when they will start putting them out for civilian use like the second paragraph talked about. Do want.
