Howdy escapists! I just wanted to pick your brains on this topic a bit as it's one that's been buzzing about my mind recently... Now, I wouldn't exactly class myself as a full-blown "smoker"; I have been smoking weed for about 6 years now, but that's mainly due to the fact that I detest alcohol and much prefer the effects of the former, preferring to use a bong for both the economic benefits and slight decrease in negative health effects (either way, that's not what's in question here). However, I've dabbled in cigarettes for several years, going through very brief patches of smoking them, albeit few and far between. This usually happens when I'm stressed or doing a Hel of a lot of work all at once.

This is where E-Cigs come in. I've been mildly fascinated by them for some time now, but didn't want to be "that guy", you know, the really pretentious one. However, given that I'm smoking more and more cigarettes these days and considering that I don't really want to die from something I partake in mainly for the motion, I'm considering in investing in of these new fangled space-fags. What do you guys thing on the issue? Are they worthwhile? Or a complete scam? Are they more beneficial for the casual smoker? Or just as lung rotting? Go crazy!

So why go on about it?
You wanna get high, go get fuckin' high. You don't have to justify it to some strangers on the internet.

OT: Well they look damn silly that's for sure.
I guess if you want to be considerate in public places they're good for that.

Woah man, I'm not trying to justify anything! I was just giving a little context to my stance on smoking. Like to smoke, not so keen on cigs. The economic and health benefits which inform my choice of paraphernalia also playing a part in my interest in E-cigs.

Cheers for the insight, but tone down the hostility.

I'm not being hostile, just honest.
Keep the shit about economy and health to Religion and Politics where it belongs.
I really can't see how going on about it helps explain your position on E-cigs.

I hardly consider a single sentence to be "going on about" something, nor can I grasp how you have failed to see the way in which my first choice of paraphernalia has inform this recent interest: They're both cheap and don't fill you with tar. I'm not talking about religion or politics, nor about the economy for that matter; I'm simply trying to find out what folks think about this new fad.

As for your apparent lack of hostility, might I suggest proof reading your comments before posting them? I fear this little altercation has likely killed this discussion before it even began...

No stop it! No! No derailing. It's bad enough when that bloody Daystar gets hold of a thread. Just kiss and make up.

Anyway, to E-cigs. If you're just there for the nicotine then it's pretty good. Vaporised water, glycerine (I think it's that anyway) and nicotine is better for you than the standard cigarette smoke. However, they are an investment, if you only smoke occasionally then, though they are better for you, but the price difference is much steeper than those that'd go through a pack a day. Also, even though it's not illegal for you to smoke them inside an establishment, they can request that you do not. Particularly with the realistic looking ones.

I can tell this thread is going to go lovely. . .

ANYWHO!

E-Cigs, the only smoke I can smoke while still doing my job. I enjoy them. Hate the fact I can't find one with a light that doesn't look silly, and it's easy to get sick because you never really think about how much you'll smoke something that basically never ends. (One cartridge is worth about 40 cigarettes.) Sometimes, you just have to put it down.

Thank you.

You smoke weed instead of alcohol because it's more economical and slight decrease negative health effects. But you smoke cigarrettes, which are obviously unhealthy. Just wut.
Yeahman, that's my point: I don't want to smoke cigarettes but do so because it is the act of smoking something which I enjoy, the motion etc. Hence the interest in E-cigs which, if I did invest in, I would probably load with nicotine free e-liquid anyhow. That said, in 50 years they'll probably discover that E-cigs cause mutation or something...

They work, but they are not as satisfying. The smoke isn't as intense as cigs and it doesn't feel the same way. Also they taste different. However, they will still give you nicotine and you can use them practically anywhere. I also found it easier to quit smoking after using them.

Oh they are also just nicotine and water so they are practically healthy compared to regular cigs.

E-cigs work to take the edge off the nicotine addiction and are, as far as I know, safer (though from what I've heard the flavouring agents in the solutions they use are considered very potent carcinogens... whether or not they are worse than cigarettes.. I've no idea). Cancer aside, they are certainly less detrimental to your body.

However, since you're a casual nicotine smoker I'd advise you to drop it entirely. It's not hard since you don't have a full blown physical/mental addiction and you'll be better off for it.
