I was just thinking about the elemental weapons in Borderlands (For those who don't know, elemental weapons function like normal weapons but shoot projectiles imbued with either lighting, fire, acid, or explosions) and then I thought, "That would be really cool in real life!"

So tell me, if you could have any REAL weapon in real life with elemental power, what would it be, and what element?

I'd like a S&W 500 that shot shock rounds, personally. Y'know, for a good ol' BANG-ZAP!

Don't we already have one? The Railgun, charge it up and fire away.

EDIT: yep, we have a railgun. It doesn't exactly go ZAP, just BANG, because the zap part is only part of the firing sequence. But I don't think that'll be on the target's mind when he's getting [a href="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d3/Railgun_usnavy_2008.jpg"]this[/a] fired at him.

I doubt we have made an effective and man portable Railgun yet.

OT:
Atlas Aries. Thats a sexy piece of weaponry.

Heres a pic of one of the many forms,

Okay well since were calling acid and explosives elements i'm going to go ahead and say shadow/darkness for my element in the form of a knife or sword that can bypass armor but still wound flesh. You got a guy in full tactical armor on the other side of a brick wall? No problem shadow sword goes right throug all of it and ends up in the dudes splean.

Well I saw on Mythbusters there was a Gatling Gun with fiery rounds so I guess they kind of exist a little. Although a sniper with explosive rounds would be sweet.

Acid is not an element. Acidity is a chemical property of certain substances.

Electricity is not an element. Electricity is the discharge of electrons in a way that scares the crap out of me and my pets.

Fire is not an element. Fire is an excess amount of thermal energy that results in destruction.

Explosion is not an element. Explosions are

Incendiary rounds exist.
I don't think rail guns actually shoot lighting...
Rail guns just magnetically project metal.
Don't qoute me on that ;)

Technically and in reality land, thats true. But considering this was posted in the Gaming Discussion, I think it's safe to go with what games often consider elements; the usual "Fire Water Air Earth" plus or minus whatever they damn well please. XD

Myself, if it had to be based of a chemical element I'd go with a sword that has a layer of mercury along the blade. (Hey, I never said it'd be realistic!) But if I'm allowed to go more ... strange, then a glove that can freeze things. Or explode directionally like a claymore! Or, or ... I like weaponizing gloves. >.>

I've always enjoyed Ice elements for some reason. Attacking my enemy and freezing them before shattering them to pieces...sends a very pleasant shiver down my spine.

It's not really a conventional weapon, but I'd totally imbue my field hockey stick with an otherworldly flame in a heartbeat. I think I'd be able to scare off home intruders really easily.

In any case, I would like a minigun that shoots fiery bullets.
Because thats, you know, awesome.
How about a semi-automatic sniper rifle with a 10 clip, over a mile accuracy, that shoots .50cal shells that are armor-piercing, with a delay-penetration incendiary / high-explosive core?

I think THAT's awesome.

Ooh, my favourite sniper rifle, now with explosion power? Yes please. A character of mine would marry that.
