It should have been longer, it felt like they were going to make it long in the beginning but then a little more than halfway through it felt like they just rushed things because they wanted to wrap it up with all grey zones etc

Otherwise it was really good, watch it to the ending, it will be worth it :]

Despite the plentiful ultra-violence and oft-inappropriate fanservice, it manages to be a very emotional - if also consistently extremely dark - drama. While it may be a show on naked mutants ripping people apart, some of the underlying dark themes and motives on all sides are all too realistic. While perhaps not in the vein of "high art" as it seem to (also) tout itself (mainly the intro and the clock symbolism), I found it a good - or rather tough, but cathartic - watch overall, which didn't overstay its welcome in its fairly short 14 episode run.

The gore and some of the nudity fits the animé well, but there's also some positively bizarre and at times almost creepy fanservice at display too, which certainly could've been lost for the better.

Many people would be put off with all the titties and the over the top gore in the anime which is understandable.

But to really enjoy it I think you really need to dealve abit deeper and think about its subliminal message it is trying to show you. That of which is about discrimination and how much pain human beings can cause to others.

I personally was stunned about how much i related to many of the struggles the chracters face when they try their best to live in a world that is out to get them.

As my favourite anime of all time i will obviously recommend it though go in with a open mind. Many things about the anime are designed to shock the viewers and many of those shocks may detear you from the actual story, but if you are willing to look past all that you will be in for a real treat.

It wasn't bad, but because of the gore and nudity it's quite overhyped. It's decent, but hardly a great series. The gore and nudity detracts more than it adds.

That said, it had some great moments in much more than just the action.

I watched it and really liked it. It is one of my favorite animes. Though I have heard the manga is better.

Utter over-hyped trash. Probably the first hint that it's a proverbial Titanic is that the director for the anime decided to throw the plot line in the manga out the window for the most part.

I will give it props for production values that are pretty high, but that alone isn't nearly enough to save it.

What could have easily been an extremely brutal, blunt movie about the human condition ended up being moronic and silly, and made the brutality seem somewhere in between farcical and forced. It feels more like they're adding in scenes to pull at the heart strings (the kids killing that puppy? Yep) to at least keep you emotionally involved rather than making a series that more or less worms its way into your head and dares you to think about the brute end of humanity. The fan service was unforgivable. Even Evangellion didn't technically sink that low (Or, at least aimed to kept it in stride.) Having a person with dual personalities is a bit cliche'd but having their other personality be a fucking cat...it screams, "couldn't think of anything better."

And the ending made me want to punch the protagonist in the face. Repeatedly. I won't spoil anything for you though.

But what I wanna know is;

1. have you watched it?

2. Is it any good?

3. Do you think the gore and nudity is necessary?

4. And I also already love Nyuu... had to be said :)
1. Yes.
2. Definitively, it's one of my favorite animes.
3. Nudity no, but gore yes for this kind of anime.
4. Meh, I prefer Nana a lot more (you'll see her more after).

I enjoy Elfen Lied. It's not as great as most people make it out to be, but I still like it a lot. So yeah, it's pretty good

That is, if you can handle the level of blood and nudity.

Way too gruesome for enjoy meant. It's pretty much just some random naked chick killing everyone and everything she sees. Not really my cup-of-tea but some people do like it.

I saw some clips of it, but it never caught on with me... I'd rather just eat pop tarts or something.

It was one of the most disturbing, hard to watch, distressing, difficult cinematic experiences of my life.

That said, it was really good. I just have to really think hard before actually recommending it to anyone.

I watched a half of it.
I dont mind gore and nudity at all. But this show used it so much that it was getting a drag.
I am currently watching 'highschool of the dead' which is basically zombie apocalypse anime style. It has a lot of, erm, 'fanservice' is the word i think. That story is a lot less interesting then Elfen lied and has less gore, yet i like it way more.
Basically i think that Elfen lied's story gets burried by all the blood to be captivating.

Great Anime in my opinion , the gore and nudity isn't anything new. Kind of funny sometimes actually. But my only downer on it is that it ended so... meh.

Elfen Leid is an intresting anime.

shallow people telling see through stories populate this anime... its story is some what flat as are a majority of the player in the acts. it is particularly irritating that the main plot involved individuals are near mentally retarded to the point of slitting ones wrists.

however that aside it tends to flow very well with its artistic direction and plays a perfect mix of gore, nudity, sexual innuendo, and mind-fuckery to leave a lasting impression and garner the love of many.

i personally like it, but i can easily see where people would dislike it.

I think my favourite was a few more episodes in; the 'how much crap can they heap on Mayu' episodes. None of the people in it have what I'd call a 'character', they're all just random bundles of issues dumped into an improbable setting (the Diclonius are a necessary allowance of illogic, like warp drives, the young people owning a big house in an already overpopulated country though...)

Also there's something a bit creepy about 'this character has the mental age of a three year old, she's practically a toddler. Oh and you can totally see her panties!"

The bad guys were bad because they were bad, especially that paramilitary jerk, seriously, would you hire that guy if you needed someone bringing in alive? It's yeat another situation where they're so evil it actually gets in the way of their jobs!
I don't know, at least warp drives kinda have some sort of logical function. Get around the "light barrier" by reducing the distance between two points by "warping" space.

Invisible arms? Hell, one of the most memorable scenes is where the chick gets her arms and legs ripped off. But thats phrasing it wrong. The chicks apparently have such fine control over these invisible, infinitely strong arms they can, literally, slice, dice, and julien a chick's arms and legs until they're mush. How did they ever capture her? It goes beyond suspension of disbelief into pure retardation.

And I kinda take for granted the size of anime houses. The only anime that didn't do "absurdly large house occupied by one guy" was maison ikkou.
