ELLIE, GET OUT OF MY WAY!!!

I absolutely love The Last of Us in almost every way possible, but at about 50% of the way through the game, I realize that Ellie was almost directly responsible every time I've been killed. Almost every major encounter I try to stealth through, I can't round a corner fast enough or climb over some obstacle because ELLIE IS IN MY GODDAMNED WAY! At this point, in the name of smooth game-play, I'd rather just see Ellie clip right through Joel instead of getting him shot.

Since I haven't seen anybody else mention this (doesn't mean they haven't though), I'm curious as to how many people are finding it difficult to be both a babysitter and a post-pandemic ninja.

Ellie never got in my way.

Now Bill on the other hand... there were three separate occasions where he planted his fat arse in a doorway and blocked me into a room full of clickers.

Same as Zhukov, Bill pissed me off as did Henry a couple times. What bothered me most is when I am sneaking and Henry's ass or another friendly is running around being noisy as all hell scaring the shit out of me thinking someone is coming up on me fast. I know they can't give away my position but they scared the crap out of me a lot. Shhhh! I'm sneaking up on these guys!

I only stumbled upon Ellie during peaceful moments, never she got on my way during a firefight.

The only problem I had with the AI companions in The Last of Us was them breaking the immersion everytime an enemy ignored them eventhough they were standing right infront of their faces.

I've been watching my roommate play this game and have enjoyed repeatedly reminding him how superior Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite's path-finding is compared to Ellies. Obviously Infinite doesn't have the stealth issues that The Last of Us does but I can't imagine running and gunning if I kept bumping into another person. There needed to be some sort of "nudge" feature for the AI, i.e. you push against them for X amount of time and they take the fucking hint to get out of the way.

She's fine during firefights and general exploration. Just during stealth, which I try to do as often as possible (my stats have me at 28 firearm kills and 81 choke-outs so far). It'll always be me crouched, trying to round a corner or hop over something, and she'll be taking cover, or moving while crouched while blocking my movement. Because I may be trying to evade someone stealthy, this can mean a lot of corners, and her AI has no idea where I'm trying to head to, so she rotates, takes cover, leaves cover, etc. in a small confined spot. Then Joel gets shot in the back (or side).

I haven't had that much trouble with Ellie when it comes to stealthing; though there have been a few occasions where one of the NPCS tagging along with you will just decide to kick you out of your own spot when you really kinda need to be there.

She has that habit. I find her "invisibility" to be an interesting concept in the escort concept. At least now I'm technically the one to blame for my deaths, but damn, she gets in the way when sneaking. There should be a "stay fucking here" button.

But that isn't my only gripe about a game I want to love.

-Lack of ammo drops forces stealth as the choice even if they've been shooting at you non-stop.
-melee weapon degradation is non-sensical in some cases such as a crowbar. How does a crow bar break? My arms would more likely fall off from the strain of swinging it.
- save system is shit. I have no idea where it saves and the auto save will save over your last manual save. I've reloaded a "save" to find i'm part way into an area to find people I killed alive but now I'm not in a good tactical spot anymore.
-upgrades are dumb. Why do I need to upgrade skills that I should clearly have after 20 years of survival

Like I said, I want to love the game but am finding it a chore/grind.

This too, though I usually get lucky, in that the enemy won't notice a giant baseball bat just hovering a foot and a half above the ground from behind a piece of furniture.

I've had it a couple of times on normal difficulty usually when it's more than one A.i partner though it's not much of an issue really, on Survivor mode it's down right frustrating to have one of the A.i characters stand in front of Joel and prevent silent moving and causing him to make enough noise to attracts everything.

My biggest issue is with the volume of the footsteps on the a.i characters during stealth sections being too loud and the fact that sometimes the a.i will walk directly into the path of an enemy and while there essentially invisible as long as Joel is, it does drag me out of the game.

I see this only happening when you have to fall back in a fight. But yeah I have noticed it. It generally never gets too problematic, usually requiring me to shift to another area. Only an issue when cover is limited.

Its weird though. There is an animation that is specifically used for staying in cover in the same place ellie is. But sometimes it doesn't work and ellie clips through you or you end up forced off of cover (or kept away from it.

The drawbacks of softcover I guess.

Other then that ellie and the other companions were rarely a hindrance.
