In case people don't know, in the US you don't funk with the mail. The post office will nail your ass like you wouldn't believe. Messing with the mail is a federal offense and a heavy one. It's not hard to think that electronic mail would also carry heavy punishment. Don't fuck with the mail, it's not worth it.

you have uploaded a picture to email. its already on the internet. you have no right to claim foul when others see it. no such thing as private mail on the internet.
beisides, sadly even celebrities are dumb enough to upload nude photos of themselves. at least the regular folk share them.

Second point, Rape is a crime. You are wondering "What the f***, who said anything about Rape?". You take a private nude photo, intended for your husband/wife, and post it for the world to see, in an attempt to humiliate/profit from it, similar damage done to the victim. I admit, not quite as much, but still a psychological attack none-the-less.
wow did you really just compared posting a nude photo for fapping to rape?

Is anyone else thinking "If the people he hacked weren't famous, would he have gotten as much as he did?"

By most accounts, search "*Actress Name* Nude" on Google Images with safe search off and you'll get it on the first page.

Although I meant it as a joke I did have a look out of curiosity, looks like what it says on paper.

As happy as I am that there are nude pictures of Scarlett Johannson, I think he got what he deserved.

Not sure if serious...

In some countries, where I'm from for example, there is a thing called Secrecy of Correspondence. Email is private correspondence and protected by law. So don't go saying "no such thing as private mail on the internet". Some countries have recognized email as private as regular mail and amended their laws accordingly.

And this case is not about celebrities uploading nude pictures on their facebook page (and then someone redistributing them). They sent private emails to their partners or friends and this man violated that privacy. I think it's only fair that he got punished for what he did.

Why is this even a question? If they weren't famous nobody would have given two squirts of piss.

Here's a legitimate question. Why did these women have pictures of themselves naked on their own phones in the first place?
Really?

Sigh...

People take nude photos of themselves/allow their boyfriends/girlfriends/whatever to take nude photos of them. It's pretty common in the western world these days.

I think he got caught because they were famous, sure. I mean, he was messing with people who had the resources to fight back: money, legal connections as well as a reputation and image to protect, but I think what really got him the prison time is that they found out alllll this other stuff that he'd been getting away with as a result.

A: None what so ever.
B: never said it did. It's still a bad thing to do.
C: sorry. I am too stupid to understand your answer.

yes i am just so surprised that they don?t know better, they are celeberies. They know that there are slim licking douches like hackers and paparazzies out there who will gladly step over the corps of their own mother to get naked photos of them. If you?re gonna send this to a boyfriend or girlfriend at least make sure to delete it from your own phone. Specially if you?re a celeb because some people will only see you either as a way to make money or as a toy made for their amusement and not a human being.

personally i think the entire consept is idiotic.

Whilst I agree with you to a certain extent, celebrities are humans too, they're going to behave in a manner similar to other people within their cultural group.

Also, whilst they perhaps could have used a bit more discretion, given their status, it's hardly fair to phrase this in such a way as to suggest it's actively their fault it happened.

Similar to if someone leaves their car unlocked and their radio gets stolen - was it unwise of them? Yes, but that doesn't excuse the thief, and ultimately it's a little bit sad that we do live in a world where if people put themselves in compromising situations (be it nude photos on a phone, or an unlocked car), then people will take advantage of that - and other people will assign at least some of the blame to the victim.

On another note, I do feel the sentence was extremely harsh, given that people have commited sexual assaults and rapes and got away with more lenient sentences.

Good to know we are on the same page. I agree with the fact that you can't blame the victim.
Even though they should have taken precautions you can't say it's their fault.
I get the impression that you think I am defending the hacker.
I just want to say that that is something I will never, ever do. Celebrity or not. Even public figures have a right to a private life.
