I've played every Total War game there's been, and I've been looking forward to Empire for a while, but this demo definitely feels disappointing, because the gameplay almost exactly resembles Imperial Glory, a poor total-war clone set in the Napoleonic Wars. The camera is also stodgy, which makes it difficult to get close to the action and see how awesome it was. The naval combat is again identical to that of Imperial Glory, but I have to say that the sea textures are gorgeous.

I tried to play it a bit, but the loading times are just horrible, firing up the game takes ages, loading a battle takes ages and even leaving the battle takes ages. If the retail version is just as bad, I won't get it, it's simply too annoying.
The game itself though, well I couldn't test it that much, I only did the tutorials and 1 battle (the land one, and I failed). The battles went smooth and I really gotta get used to the camara. Looking forward to more gameplay.

pff personally, I think that most of these complaints are subjective, and down to personal system issues or incompetance..
I myself had no problems whatsoever- the game ran well, even on my terrible rig and I had no sound problems at all..
I found the gameplay to be fun (especially the land battles) and the ai to be clever and responsive (apart from the 'setting the spikes the wrong way' problem)
And as for your 'losing the sea battle' problem Kukkakau, I lost in a similar way and have done everytime Ive tried it..but surely thats down to our own incompetance rather than a fault in the game?
The only issue I had, as mentioned bfore, was the really REALLY long loading times..

I'll definitely agree that the AI is more responsive, and it's certainly far more proactive than the AI seen in most previous games. It'll be interesting to see what the strategic map AI is like, because apparently they've fixed the wierd thing whereby the Military and Diplomatic AI for a faction was seperated in Rome and Medieval II.

In all honesty the slow moving camera was all that made the land battles annoying for me. It's not the 'WASD' thing, I got used to that really quick because I play a lot of FPS games, it's the fact that it's slower to cover distance and to zoom into the ground than in any other Total War game, and i'm used to it being much faster.

Also the loading times are sucky, but i'm patient so I can bear with them.

So is this basically colonial revolutionary war stuff?
The game is set in 1700-1800. SO yeah guess it is. Theres a campaign mode that you can play the foundation of the United States. Hope they release a expansion pack or DLC covering Napoleons rise and maybe the Zulu wars.

Then theres also the Grand Campaign mode in wich the object is to pick a faction and control the world!

The news of this being released has got me back into Medieval 2. I love being the Turks, until Ghengis fucking Khan comes and wipes me out.

I just downloaded the demo and I love it.
The sea battles caused my system to lag up a little which is weird considering I'm well over the recommended requirements.

The only other issue I had was with the load times, takes me ages to load every level.

I haven't played Medieval Total War, but CA seem to have a thing about the Mongols being somewhat unstoppable. In the Barbarian Invasion expansion to Medieval, it seemed physically impossible to play as the Russians in the High Period, simply because the Mongol invasion would appear after 20 years and annihalate you: you had no ability to produce enough troops to stop them.

Even as far back as Shogun, the Mongols (in the expansion campaign), were able to destroy Japanese forces of twice their size, and winning the Mongol Invasion campaign as the Japanese, again, seemed impossible.

Well...Mongols are awesome!

They also had one of the worlds biggest empires covering most of Asia. In Asia the Mongol Empire is the equivelant of the Roman Empire on Europe and surrondings.

That;s certainly true, but when a race appears that so utterly destroys the game for one of the factions (one of my favourite factions in the original, before the expansion it has to be said), it gets a tad irritating...

I've had a go at the demo, and I seem to suck at the naval battle. I'm trying to micromanage the ships, but the French just trounce me. When I'm busy lining up one broadside, which then refuses to fire for no apparent reason (yes, I checked that the guns were loaded, but then clicking the button sometimes means it doesn't fire), and I can steer a ship right out of the way of a barrage, but then I turn around and my other ships are on fire!
Is it just that I suck, or is it that there's two fleets which makes this difficult? Is trying to surround them on btoh sides a bad idea? Help me out please, people.

Glad It's not just me thats having long load times. It was horrendous for me. That being said however, I've also bought every total war game, CA have never let me down. I've spent way to much time playing Medieval 2, and I as really psyched about Empire. I thought the demo was good, obviously unpolished, but I'm sure that will be fixed.
It seems heaps different though, because of the firing arcs and and formations, less emphasis on throwing people into a melee at the right place.
