Here's the deal, I am a massive procrastinator and the internet has been the bane of my concentration. This is really annoying because I tend to study with my computer (making notes on words and research etc..etc) but ever so often I find my self posting here, on TV tropes, Wikipedia hunting useless links or on Youtube.

The thing is I realise that if I listen to music while I study I can vastly improve my concentration. Nothing too loud like metal, techno or grunge-pop-rap-garage-hip-hop funk, and nothing too mellow like blues or jazz. It's usually something with no lyrics, instrumental, like classical music.

The problem is once the study season begins again I am going to have to crack the books again and I don't want to relisten my "study music", I'm already bored of it. There is only so many times I can listen to Beethoven. So I ask you all, recommend me some "powerful" music that will inspire me to focus and concentrate.

Please don't suggest Pantera or Slipknot for no sane human can study in that racket. If *you* can, then brilliant but my ear drums can't (not that I dislike metal..its just not appropriate when your trying to study). So please help me out with some music, preferably with no lyrics but I don't mind either way. It has to be energetic music though and not "elevator music" where it can put anyone to sleep.

I just can't think of any options atm for any song that can get my juices flowing when I listen to it.

Skankfunk, if you're into it ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8B4O3Y9L1s ).

Hope that helped.

Have you heard of the Vitamin String Quartet? They perform covers of rock and pop songs with a string quartet (two violins, a viola and a cello)

Here are some samples:

I'd advise the complete works of John Williams. And the theme from Dragonheart is the most amazing piece of classical music produced in the last fifty years.

That besides, I'd go for the intrumentals on movie soundtracks. You're right, the old classic classical music really does get a little blah with repeated use.

I listen to this band called Holy Fuck [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCJisXvd8mQ] when I need to study. Actually I was going to look up other bands but that's probably your best bet.

Oh thanks to that guy saying "The String Quartet" it reminded me of this band called The Section Quartet. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwfLCtyWpFw] The video isn't great quality because it's of a live recording, but you get the idea.

Well pretty much any of the songs from Two Steps from Hell or X-ray Dog will satisfy that criteria. How much it will help in studies though I don't know. For the most part they are orchestral/instrumental music while some have non-english lyrics in them/choir.

For example: ASAP- Two Steps from Hell. Excuse the Battlestar Galactica part, I just particularly like the clip. :D

I have to agree with this completely -- movie scores are the way to go if you want to study, especially if you find classical music to be boring (gasp!). The familiarity of the tunes from the films you enjoy will keep your interest, but not enough to distract you from your task. John Williams is an excellent choice, too.

That has been my own experience, anyways. Best of luck to you.

Winrar for your sir!. That's perfect even with a choir in it.

When I was at uni I ended up getting hooked on one album per exam period and for a few weeks of revision I'd basically listen to just that one album over and over again. The best I can remember:

DJ Shadow - Pre-Emptive Strike
Calvin Harris - I Created Disco
The Darkness - Permission to Land
Electric Six - Fire
