When I was a little kid, my dad and I used to play Vigilante 8. Besides one other game, it was the only multiplayer game i've ever played with him in my life. So for this father's day, I planed on using Project 64 and simply getting a ROM of the game. Sadly neither the first game nor the 2nd Offense work. Both suffer from broken menu graphics and an even worse framerate.

So does anyone know whats wrong?

LOL NOTHING ILLEGAL HERE GUYS

Despite common misconception, it isn't against the rules to talk about 4chan. Ask /v/, the video games board. Most forums consider talking about this to be taboo.

If I knew the problem, I would help you. Unfortunately the only time I've ever used an emulator was to play pokemon on my PC, so sorry :/

From my understanding, ROMs are legal if you own a physical copy of the game, since this guy probably does, I doubt he's breaking any rules or whatnot.

hmn.. actually im pretty sure emulation isn't illegal, you still need to have an original console to import the BIOS, and you can use to to play legally purchased games. That said i know next to nothing about it so i cant help you out.

Sadly, it's only if you still own a copy of the game. He probably doesn't own a copy anymore since he's asking for a ROM.

Oh! In that case, expect a PM from me shortly. It's probably still illegal for me to provide info to you that is accessible to the rest of these guys.

I don't quite think we're actually allowed to tell you.

Legal reasons and stuff.
Actually, talking about the emulator itself, and how to optimize it isn't really illegal.

Now, the origin of those ROMs is what may be illegal. But he said he still has the game, so it's not.

Project 64 is long from working.
It crashes with about 40% of the games, and somewhat near 20% of the rest have glitches.

Paper Mario crashes after the first level, for example.
What'chu talkin' about, Willis? All the games I've tried with it have run fine.

The only problem I ever had with it was with Space Station Silicon Valley. In the opening cutscene, only that-guy-whose-name-I-can't-remember was visible. The ship and the robot were totally gone. It was funny until I tried playing the game and I couldn't see any animals or orbs.

I'm not quite sure of this forum's stance of Emulators and ROM's and stuff so I'm just covering myself incase it happens to be against the rules.

The issue really isn't with emulation, the issue is with Roms. As far as I remember, it's legal to talk about emulators all we want, but as long as we don't talk about obtaining and fiddling with Roms we're okay.
