Hey everybody,
I wasn't sure where these infamous "first posts" go, so I thought I'd play it safe and quarantine it in the Off-Topic section until a mod releases it into the forum where it'll be properly hazed by veteran posters who spend their Fridays owning noobs like all the other champions of the world.
Anyhow, it has taken a bit of self-persuasion to get me back into the posting scene, as I have been off the wagon for a good year and a half, and flame wars are the very reason I left in the first place, so I have no ambition to get back into those. And it's not because I don't have a tough skin, I just got tired of the fact that I was posting with morons.
So the reason I'm getting back into posting is that I do enjoy writing, I'm an aspiring writer, and have done writing for all sorts of things, from movie reviews to video game reviews, from short film screenplays to sketch comedy, even dabbling a little bit with short stories and a radio play. But I'm at the point where I miss being able to do a little bit of light writing for simplistic fun and a bit less on the serious side, so I thought I'd get back into it here, where I can review some games that I enjoy in a forum that I have lurked long enough to see that quite a few of you share my wavelength.
But variety is the spice of life, and if you don't agree with me that's fine, because I have reasons for which my opinions are based, and I'm always ready to explain and defend my stance with some reasonable debate. In order to give you guys a better understanding as to whether or not you like or hate me, I'll throw it out there right now that I'm not a hardcore gamer, I just know what I like. A lot of which tends to define me as an "old school" style.
I do not much care for the vast majority of J-RPGs, and it's not through a lack of trying. I really wanted to like them. Really, I did. Unfortunately, we are just too different, on a seemingly molecular level. When I think about RPGs that have provided me with an overwhelmingly positive experience, I think back on Ultimas 6, 7, 7 part 2 (and I even played 8 far more than I should have), the Fallout series, the Quest for Glory series, the Darksun series, and Planet's Edge. And I will say that if you've even HEARD of Planet's Edge before, we'll get along fine.
I guess my other tastes in games will reveal themselves soon enough, but I find that most gamers tend to be defined based on their views of the RPG genre, and so I thought I'd get that out of the way first. I look forward to posting with you guys and reading your feedback when I decide to review a game.
