When the ending of a book, movie, or television series sucks, it's pretty obvious and people make a big deal out of it. No one seems to make a big deal out of a GOOD ending. Lets take a moment to pay some respect to the writers that didn't manage to fuck up the ending of something good.

Here's some for starters:
Battle Star Galactic (the new series); Kara was an angel burning with the light of god, whoever saw that one coming?
Halo 3. There was a grand unity about it
Steven King's Dark Tower.

Really? I actually thought the ending was just decent, I mean a guy basically saves everyone single-handedly, and the best you can do is scratch his number into a ship? I know spartans "don't die", but they could've had a memorial or something for him.

An ending I loved however, was Big Fish, one of the few films that bring tears to my eyes.

Wait? The Ending of BattleStar Galactica was the thing that sucked the most....

Anyway:

The ending to American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

Inglourious Basterds ended perfectly. Literally, I've never been more satisfied with an ending because it ended just at the right time.

Mass Effect. It both offered a sense of closure while baiting a sequel at the same time.
And that incredibly cheesy epic closing screen of Commander Sheppard standing out in space.

I give Mother 3 my title for favorite ending. It's heartfelt, emotional, beautifully paced, and offers closure if you stick around.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SHOC

There were 7.
the two 'real' endings were excellent. The 5 "false" endings were interesting, but didn't really "end" properly. Ended your character tho.
Which is interesting, because S.T.A.L.K.E.R. CS has a terrible ending.

I still hold to this day that the ending to The Two Thrones Prince of Persia: That sands of Time is the best one I've ever seen.
Actaully, I take that back. Assassin's Creed had a perfect ending, although it was at the same time a dick more extrordinaire-- WHAT THE F**K JUST HAPPENED?!!?, I always end up shouting.
Nothing like the f**kwitted promise of a sequel...

Yeah, completely agree with you there. He got what he deserved.

Don't tell me, I haven't had the time to finish the Red Forest portion
Bleh... I hate the Red Forest. It was fine in the first game, why does it have to suck so hard in the second?
Really? I liked Red Forest in the second game more than the first.

Unfortunately, the game is about to take a dip in quality. Which is a shame, because I thought it was pretty good up until Limask.

Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

BTW I stand by the ending of Battlestar Galactica. It was good enough to make me wish that I was a fan and had followed the show while it was running.

It may be an understatement but the Shawshank Redemption's ending was great.
Indeed. Actually it's #1 on IMDB's Top 250 Movies, slightly ahead of The Godfather. I'm not sure if that means anything, but apparently it's the best movie ever?

Agreed, I was expecting....something much different to happen.

Also I liked the ending of District 9, the movie was so well done that I'm alright with a sequel for it.

Persona 4, although I think it may just be because I went ahead and finished 3 first, and 3's ending was depressing.

My favorite video game ending has to be Mafia, and in fact the whole story was awesome and had excellent voice acting.
Can't wait for Mafia 2.

It's probably cliched by now but Death Note's ending was for me epic.
Sure the last minute Giovanni-snake intrussion to the plot was kinda out of placed but hey, what I most liked about this ending is that it gives you a concrete and solid winner from both sides. I know I'm depending too much on the plot development to say so but, well, the ending is part of the plot after all.

Sword to the Forehead... FUCK YEAH!
It was really satisfying but well, in my opinion ocarina of time was much more epic, I guess is for the cartoony part (no hard feelings). You do get the stab on the forehead too.

Mass Effect.

And of older games, Star Control 2 and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge.

Star Control 2 ended up with the galaxy pretty much saved with a slightly unusual solution, even though you have to f*** certain species up the Gluteus Maximus even if they are not hostile or even belligerent. One of them was even in fact part of the good guys...

One of the best written story and dialogues I've seen, even if it was supposed to be a space puzzle-solving/tactical combat game.
