This search engine known as "Blackle" boasts a pitch-black background with white text, which takes a bit less energy for you monitor to display. It's use won't take a big chunk out of your indevidual power bill; the difference in energy consumption compared to reguler search engines isn't enough to flip a light on and off realy fast, but the idea is to get lots of people use it in order to reduce the total power consumtion of the population.

This is really really close to breaking the no advertising rule. You also didn't ask any question to start conversation.

It's the same as Google, it's just black, so it makes your monitor use less power. Which is how it touts itself as "energy saving".
It might save more power by not existing, and saving the resources it takes to maintain the website and the employees of that company.

Just me throwing it out there.

In the same way that you could theoreticaly save power by NOT building and maintaining windmills or solar panals?

Not quite the same inputs or outputs. Or terms of scale.

It's not a perfect comparason but you get what I mean. Or do you?
