ok so my ISP is sky, and it is fucking awful, its at most OK during off peak hours, but when it hits peak hours, it becomes unusable, i mean posting this thread will take me like 30 seconds once i click "post"

now what pisses me off is i am paying for 20MB and i get like 6 down and like 0.3 up at the best of times, and during peak its basically 0 for up and down

the package i pay for says "no drops during peak hours" but i clearly am getting drops, massive fucking drops, what rights do i have here to like do something(i dont want to sue as its lots of hassle for nothing really)

anyone else in England having this problem

I live in Essex (South East England) for the record

just did speedtest and i am currently getting 0.06 down and 0.3 up at 8:50pm its fucking awful

You have sky as your ISP it's to expected they are terrible

also you get up to 20mb not 20mb and to be honest you would be lucky to get that if you lived in the server although I think the governments trying to stop that bullshit

Hate to say it, even after a lot of the stress they can put you through, virgin media do offer a reliable internet service, and it's pretty cheap too. Only bad thing is that they throttle you after about 30 mins after downloading at your max speed on peak hours, but you can download on your max speed all you want after midnight.

Check your contract for a cancellation clause, there is probably one but it'll be hard to use.
Next:
Ring them, tell them that you wish to report a fault. Report the fact your internet DOES NOT WORK, they may issue you a replacement modem, receive that. I'm guessing it won't fix the problem, I'd be amazed if it did. Next ring them again and tell them it still doesnt work, its slow to the point of unusable etc etc. You'll probably have to go through troubleshooting, put up with it. Next, when it still doesn't work, ring them and tell them that due to their lack of support and abiliy to provide you with a service with which you are paying for, you wish to cancel your contract on the grounds they are not providing the service you are paying for. Cite the fact you have already reported problems twice, and were having consistent problems for some time before picking up the phone and contacting them. They'll probably tell you that you can't cancel. Immediately ask to speak to their manager or superior. Do not settle for anything else other than that. Upon speaking to them explain what the problem is, and why you wish to cancel. If your contract does have a clause, use it AFTER reporting the faults otherwise theyll just say they have no record of any reported faults in your area. If they won't accept it just keep pushing until you get to someone who has the power to cancel it. If this still doesnt work, contact trading standards. Write down roughly whats said and at what times you spoke to customer support. No guarantees that'll work either. But good luck i hope this helped.

From what you describe, I think your suffering from an overburdened network. Too many users on a shitty network.

Your out of luck, I'm afraid. Unless you get your neighborhood to rise up against your provider, the probably wont upgrade their miserable equipment.

Sorry.

How far are you away from the exchange? That's the most common reason for slow speeds. Do a speed test here http://speedtester.bt.com/ . That will tell the distance from the exchange and what speed you should be getting. If your speed is lower than the expected one ask sky to retrain you line.

Get Be* internet, since they are awesome.

sky suck.
They have good ping times but their download speeds are really variable, and there are a lot more issues with the modem than any other connection I've tried. Also don't Sky own BE?

OT: 'up-to' speeds really suck, hopefully it shouldn't matter in a few years once this super-fast internet gets rolled out.

Don't think so, but I never had any issue with the router they supplied at two totally separate locations.

Thought it was O2 that bought them.... could be wrong though.

no bother mate. I have learned that to get what you want out of customer service, you need to be polite but ruthless. Write down what you want so you can't be talked into a compromise and then get to it :)

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
You complain!?
I live in the south, one of the worst places for internet connection, live in what is essentially a no-signal ditch AND have TalkTalk.

It has taken me 10 minutes and 3 attempts to write this post.
What you have been experiencing is me on a good day.

Also we didn't mention that we would throttle you after you have used 250mb worth of bandwidth, now go kill yourself after writing us another $80 check

Do you turn your router off over-night?, Because some ISPs (not sure about sky) will pick it up in the early hours of the morning as an unexplained 'drop' in service (which is interpreted as an unstable supply), at which point the provider will often reduce bandwidth until the connection 'stabilises'.

Take a look at your deal again, mine says 24 MBit but if you look closely it will say 12->24. So your deal might be somewhat like that.
