Being from New England, my family says just about any word with an R at the end with an "ah" sound instead. In fact, the only time you hear an "R" at the end of a word from my relatives is when they shoehorn it into a word that ends with "a". Soder, pizzer, coler...

Here in Stoke the words 'Specific' and 'Pacific' mean the same thing, along with 'Genuinely' and 'Generally'.

Also there's this word 'nesh' that really pisses me off.
Yeah I know what you mean, I used to live in Stoke. My dad often calls me a nesh carrot, took me a while to get what it meant. Also this is a slight nitpick but it irritates me when people pronounce book as boo-k, it just sounds silly to me, something I had a problem with in Stoke.

And don't even get me started on the word Scone, I don't get how it can be pronounced scon, it's cone with a bloody s in front of it, how hard is that to get?

That's weird...given THAT BOOK IS OOK WITH A B IN FRONT OF IT!

I once heard the word 'demise' pronounced 'doomees'. Figure THAT one out.

I personally sometimes say damage as 'daumauge' to lampoon this line of speech.

There is one I always commit that irks me, but I can't stop. The word pronunciacion. I nearly always say "pronounciation".

I always pronouce "you're" and "your" and "they're" and "their" noticeably differently. I think that's why I never confound them. Basically, I'm more right than the language itself and it should be ashamed.

You know the word "Chimera"?

For years I thought it was pronounced "Chai-murr-ah" (no, I don't know how I got that either). Then one day while playing WoW with 3 friends, one corrected me and claimed it was pronounced "Chee-mu-rah". Then another one cut into the conversation and told us it was "Shim-mur-ah". Finally the last friend stated that it was "Chee-Meir-ah". Then we spent the next half an hour arguing about it.

I still don't know how you pronounce it properly. :/
It's pronouced ki-meer-uh.

I was apparently failing that one too. So pro-nun-ciation? Like a professional nun.

Here's one word which every single American gets wrong.

You know the continent Antarctica? American's call it "Anartica". They're bloody missing two whole letters! There's a 't' and a 'c' in there, you know. I mean, how stupid does it sound the way they say it? It's actually embarrassing.

Say it with me now. "An-tarc-tica". It's the name of a place, so there's absolutely no excuse for pronouncing it wrong.

Can't think of many instances of this happening where it particularly irritated me. If a friend mispronounces a word, I just tease them for it.

But then, when it comes to obscurely named characters in books or video games, where the name is at no point pronounced out-loud, I'll disagree quite often with people's interpretation of how to pronounce those names xD

(E.G Tidus from FFX. Is it Tye-dus, or Tee-dus?)

I always said Tye-dus, but I think that was given in a later game as Tee-dus.

Mind you sometimes Square do change character names in English, like Aeris is now officially Aerith. Not sure why that happened :)

I'm actually never bothered by this. It's a natural thing for different places to pronounce things differently. I get more annoyed by people mispronouncing names. (After the are told how to pronounce them, of course.) Though, some are really hard.

When I was little, I pronounced "herb" with a non silent "h".
That is how it's supposed to be pronounced.

OT: I am guilty of pronouncing many words phonetically. There is an area near where I live called St Budeaux pronounced Bue Doe, which I insist on pronouncing Bud aux because that is how it is spelt.

The main pronunciation that pisses me off at the moment is niche. It is pronounced neesh, not nitch.

In my youth I always said the pokemon move Cut as Kut.
Something much to the dismay to my parents as Kut is Dutch slang for the female reproductive organ.

Well seeing as how you took my conversation as inspiration, I may as well participate. XD

Several people I know in Michigan (West Michigan area at least) pronounce the word Picture as Pitcher. They leave out the c and it annoys me for some dumb reason.

I myself have a habit of saying "fer" (fur) instead of for when its in the middle of my sentence. Only in the middle though. I'll say "What's it FOR" but then say stuff like "It's FER work."

Other than that my pronunciation is fairly okay. I won't say its perfect, but its good enough that no one ever comments on it... my grammar and spelling on the other hand XD
That's just natural English. notice that the first A in natural sounds like one but the last one sort of fuses with other sounds and almost disappears? (this is easier when someone else is just speaking without thinking otherwise you end up over analysing. Similarly "of" pronounced alone or emphasised sounds something like "ov" but "middle of the road" would sounds something like "middle've the road" (not exactly of course but my point is the sounds changes

OT: This explains why people have trouble recognising should'VE i.e. "I should haVE done that first" and write "I should of done that first"

My boss keeps pronouncing "define" as "divine".

And I keep seeing Native Americans dance around in a circle around a stack of papers every time some new requirements documents have to be divined :)

*My apologies in advance for the generalization. I seems my brain is slightly racist :p

I think that one is on you. Unless it's an English name, pronouncing "I" as "eye" is bound to be the wrong option.

I was watching a news segment one morning and there was this kid they were interviewing, I think he was trying to say "definitely" .. He pronounced it "deff-int-lee"
Then one time I was at working, I was filling up the bakery tables in the bread section and two young couples (early twenties) were doing their weekly shop together. One of the women started going about how good our bree-ohs were, and I was wondering what the fuck she was on about until she picked up a packet of brioche.

I knew a kid who used to say womb like it rhymes with bomb. Sex ed class was weird.

I also went to Euro Disney once with some French people who made me ride on Spass Montayne three times that day. Them saying that over and over was my favorite part of the day
