I'm just going to address the big elephant in the room here: I'm just getting sick of zombies in every medium. It used to be that an interest in the undead was quirky, morbidly hilarious or even showed a certain joie de vivre. Now, they're everywhere and they have been co-opted into every popular medium as being something that grabs people's attention on a base level; it's like sex and violence in that you only can see so much before it becomes desensitizing.

This is at odds with my interest in horror and music inspired by it, because in the genres I like, zombies and the undead are prominently featured. Old horror movies used zombies as an allegory to different social issues at the time. Now what's the message sent out by them? "Hey, zombies! Buy this shit, nerd! We know you will!"

I'm tired of this being the case day in and day out with the zombies. They're growing trite and stale, which is something that I think is terrible when it comes to something with as much affect and gravitas as the walking dead. Whenever I see zombies in a product these days, I wonder what someone is trying to sell me, rather than be happy that my niche is being explored by more mainstream sources. Nobody likes to be pandered to, after all.

That said, Happy Samhain! Just know that if you dress like a zombie out of laziness, you should be punched in the gut.

Left 4 Dead will never become "Stale"

MUST. PLAY. MORE.

But in all reality, every upcoming form of zombie media besides that can just vaparize itself for all I care.

Hipster zombie lover, loved zombies before they were popular!

Nerds love zombies so they have forcefully interested zombies into everything. If you want them to stop making zombies they you have to remove there urge to get revenge on society, i.e. zombies. I don't think that's possible so I'm just going to ignore this zombie media the same way I ignore most major FPS game releases.

I'm not tired of zombies yet, I'll probably always enjoy the genre.

But I do think that for all the times zombies have been used very well recently in media, is far outweighed by poorer, lazier efforts. For example, when a game will just include a kind of enemy that just runs at you and calls them zombies, when really they've missed the point of what makes zombies so horrifying - Not just the fear of death, but BECOMING mindless and undead. That is the threat that is exclusive only to zombies and one worth exploring. Unfortunately, a lot of games don't capture this and zombies just become pretty much any unarmed enemy you've ever encountered in a game.

Hell, Left 4 Dead is one of my favourite games of this gen and een though they nail atmosphere and co-op dynamics right on the damn head, the game still suffers from the above problem to some degree. Maybe its because "they're not zombies, they're infected", but does that even really matter? Who cares about that small detail of exactly how those people came to be what they are, we all know they're still freakin' zombies!

But now I'm rambling.
