Welcome to my second issue of the Entertainment Archives today I am going to review Vampire Rain.
Now I originally wanted to do morrowind but it wouldn't run on my PC so Im gonna review this instead.
Now this game has a rep for being a very bad Splinter cell rip off with Vampires but is it? Lets take a look.
Now me and stealth games have a history one of my favorite genres and a Stealth game with Vampire's sounded Great but this game is not.
You play as a special ops Agent know as John Loyd. He and his teammates have one night to Kill the Prime walker, rescue a kidnapped Scientist, and try to figure out the cause of the Nightwalker threat.
Vampire Rain puts a heavier focus on pure Stealth which sounds good on paper but is very poorly done here since unlike most Stealth games there is no effective way to run away or hide from the Nightwalkers you need to either kill them or die.
The games Enemy's are Vampire like Creatures called Night-walkers and boy are they annoying they run at greatly enhanced speed, can jump over almost anything,And can kill you with just one blow.
while fighting back Is an option its always better to avoid contact Because Since it can take up to 20 rounds to kill an enemy your Handgun and rifle aren't much use, Some missions allow you to use sniper rifles and shotguns which are both effective weapons however at the end of these missions they are oddly taken away from you, In a game that is meant to take place over the course of a single night that doesn't really make much sense, and if a sniper or shotgun are the only good weapons they have why would you walk around without one? You're also equipped with a UV knife which allows you to stab a Nightwalker from behind for an instant kill but the Knife only has a handful of Charges in Each Level, That's right your Knife needs ammo, Plus its also very hard to sneak when there are no sound effects to tell if your foot steps are to loud
Now I know what your thinking "if Standard enemy's can kill with one hit the bosses would be nearly impossible" Right?
Well no the Bosses here are Easy to read pushovers Edward the games first boss(no not that Edward that would actually be pretty cool if you could kill that..thing) Carry's a shotgun but he prefers to walk over to kick you(which for some reason does less than a 1/4 of normal enemy hits) due to this he Obliviously walks over brightly lit UV mines in his way. When he Finally does bring our the firepower his attack Pattern is so robotic and obvious that it's downright comical.
The game consists of over 20 story Missions with extra side missions and tutorial missions in-between the side missions are almost useless however, for example one mission asks you to clear a rooftop for a Helicopter to land, and while I was expecting to snipe Vampires you enter the mission only to find ..... A bunch of Crates. The entire Goal of the mission is to shot crates I swear I'm not making that up.
While the main game lasts around 16 hours that's mostly due to the painful trial and error game play since it like's to hide Nightwalkers around corners that you just didn't know were there so you will die A LOT!!!!!!!
there are several other things wrong with this game like how it really does feel like a rip off of splinter cell, or that many levels have you go through past levels Backwards or that the story made me feel like an idiot for calling the creatures Vampires despite the fact that It's called Vampire Rain.
But I really don't have time to go into all the complaints Vampire Rain just Sucks.
So thanks for reading post your thoughts and what I should review Next (I'll do morrowind as soon as I can get it working) Cya next time.
