No...Not by a long shot
Try Meshugah of Dillinger Escape Plan For actually fast, technical metal.

I suppose quite a bit of power metal could quantify as "speed metal". Here's a pretty decent song i found just by youtubing "speed metal". Sounds like it's up your street.

Here's a personal favourite of mine which you may also like:

Yes, and I like the kind of corny power metal thing, but not only is it not hard (it's basically 2 arpeggios, and they can't even play it live). Dillinger Escape plan play incredibly complex metal, it changes time signature almost every bar, and they vary tempo so much it's a complete mind fuck.

Sikth are another example of faster, technical music.

I think quite hilariously both the intros for those songs sound like that could have been in dynasty warriors. Which i'm sure has some occasional epic music inbetween the turds.

But yes I don't think Dragon Force is the most epic fast band their is, perhaps the most mainstream? (not that being mainstream means bad, I just meant widely known)

Hey... There's always Extratone... I'm not sure I'd call it epic, but it's fast...

I love Dragonforce, don't get me wrong, and what they do is good for what it is (even if they're awful live). But it is very basic metal---playing their instruments with simple arpeggios as fast as they can (which kicks ass, but still.)

I love the more technical elements of the genre that the other bands mentioned in this thread are capable of. But there's still room in my heart for DF, the same way there's room for McDonald's in a world full of gourmet cheeseburgers.

As far as im concerned Death Metal is the fastest within Metal, apart from being very technical.
I'm not sure if I agree with you there, some Speed Metal and Mathcore stuff can be much faster, though it really does depend on the song/band

Dragonforce the most epic fast band in the world? Methinks the OP has a weakness to fire (cookie for reference).

On a less derogatory note, try Rhapsody of Fire.

I dont think speed metal was ever as technical or fast as death metal, not sure about mathcore, because ive never listened to some, but its not an entirely metal genre.
Hmm, yeah I guess, I thought you were speaking of the speed though rather than the technicality, but yeah, in terms of how technical it is it probably would be the most out of the 'entirely' metal genres. Though as I said, it depends on the song/band. Bands like Obituary, while still DM are not really fast nor that technical. Overall, I think mathcore is the most technical/fast of metal genres. :]
