(Some may not see this as irony, but I decided to start this thread anyway).

Like many of you, I heard about the "Boobquake" from this very site.
(For those of you who don't know, the Boobquake was a group of female students who were mocking a religious official who said that earthquakes were caused by immodest clothing by wear almost nothing). Today I was thumbing the The Week, a fairly accurate and objective news magazine, when I noticed an article saying that on the day of the Boobquake, a 6.5 earthquake was recorded in Taiwan. Needless to say, I roared with laughter at the irony.
So it got me thinking, what other hilarious irony is out there?

To sum everything up, Post your greatest moments and viewings of irony!

Well, hilarious irony or tragic...

The U.S.S. Indianapolis had just finished delivering its classified payload in 1945, when, on its return trip it was torpedoed and sunk by a Japanese sub. Of the 1200 crew members, 800 went into the water. Because it had been operating on a highly classified mission the ship was under radio silence. It took the Navy a week to realize the ship had been lost, and weren't really aware something was wrong until a reconnaissance plane spotted the wreckage. Due to sharks and dehydration only about 300 crew members survived the week in the water.

The irony, their classified payload was the two atomic bombs.

No, the irony was that the navy had no idea that something was wrong because of the nature of the mission. They could've been transporting the President to a secret meeting with Stalin, or delivering saboteurs in Japanese occupied territory or whatever.

Sorry, I can't let that pass, like when people get logical and causal mixed up...

Thing about the earthquake though, is that there were no more or no greater earthquakes than usual.

This is my second homepage. There is a magnitude 6 earthquake every 3 days or so.
What he said. But wait... you watch earthquakes as your 'second homepage'? Is it a hobby?

True, but the fact that they landed on the same day is still kinda funny.

When a fire station burns down.

Happened to our local one - we were both humored and a little scared. o_O

A bloke I met told me about his indoor swimming pool burning down during a storm. You heard me. He said that even the firemen had no idea how the flames spread so quickly with so much water everywhere.

Fair enough.

I like the George Carlin definition of ironic.

"If a diabetic out on a walk to buy insulin is hit by a truck, that is tragedy. If the truck is carrying sugar, that isn't irony, it's merely a tragic coincidence. But if the truck is carrying insulin... that, my friends, is irony writ large."

Thanks for understanding. I try not to sound like a prick, but often do.

What's ironic is to be a KKK member who gets shot, only to be brought to an emergency room staffed entirely by African-Americans. I saw this photo somewhere one time and snagged it. Truly ironic.

Sigh...people are going to hate me for this, but the English Major in me can't help it. Granted, it was posted at the start that some may not find this ironic, but still.

Irony is using words to say one thing, but mean another. Another way to put it is "The use of words for something other than their literal intention." Futurama actually did an episode--the last of the series before the movies--where the Robot Devil kept trying to use irony and Bender kept correcting him. That's where that line is from. Most of this stuff is poetic justice or mean coincidence.

A true example of Irony actually involves the attempted killing of Reagan. All the assassin's bullets missed, but one deflected off the bulletproof car and struck Reagan. If the girl who won't the song "Ironic" realized when she wrote is that nothing in it was Ironic, then it is, in fact, ironic.

Some girl in my school bet her yet to be born child I was still a virgin.

The child ended up dying two days after birth from complications resulting in being born a slight early.

Sad, but I can't think of a more ironic situation that had occurred in my life.

It's not epic or anything. I have to walk through this path that I hate because it's pretty much the only choice and at fucking night where you can't see shit because there's no lamplight and it's pretty much trees and plants everywhere. I had to one time run every night just because I wanted to perform a little better in a school competition. By now I've walked more than 100 times and usually it's dark when I walk there.
I'm sorry, I really don't understand what you're trying to say here :(
