Epic: Microsoft Doesn't Own Gears of War

gears on the PS3 would be nice but I'm not holding my breath. Gears of War on the PS3 is about as believable as Namco releasing a Tales of game on the system.

Please note that I would love to be proven wrong by both companies.

Capps confirmed that Gears of War is Epic's IP, but said that Microsoft makes an exclusive partnership very worthwhile. "Time and time again, when it came down to figure out what we do next with Gears, we sat down with Microsoft and they've given us really good, compelling reasons to work with them again," he added.

In translation, MS offers lots and lots of money.

Ninja'd by Scruffy, of all people. Although I'll add that because of that, they do in effect own it. I'd imagine there's quite a hefty exclusivity contract involved, because MS can't exactly afford (not in the monetary sense) to keep the series exclusive on cash bribes with no guarantee.
