Games that have epic monster battles, why are there so few of them. Few things makes me feel more like a harbinger of death than taking down an enemy 100 times my size. Killing 1000s of insurgents and fleshy humans are boring. I want a 10,000 ton leviathan spewing acid snot over me.

Shadow of the Colossus is of course top of the list.
I'm looking forward to Lost Planet 2, looks exactly like what I want.
I prefer games where I control 1 character through out the entire battle, not D&D style or JRPGs with groups of characters. I want to press a button for every bullet I fire, sword I swing or spell I cast.

Mods are fine too! I would REALLY love a mod for Oblivion that made certain monsters bigger or even added some epic monsters. Like a giant ogre or 10-story tall dragon. That would be sick.

What other games can you suggest that have epic man-on-giant-monster battles?

Darksiders sounds like something you may like, as will the other games yahtzee mention to be god of war clones. Also god of war itself.

Get the Wasteland bosses mod for Fallout 3, then try to take on Mr Nasty.

He's basically impossible to kill. It takes about 20 nukes to slow him down. And he's fucking huge.
Seriously? I heard the name and that he was hard to kill... but, damn.
Will 300 missiles do anything? I keep collecting ammo without using it.
And I still need to get Fallout 3 on PC... it'll be so fun...

Well, out of recent ones I think Bayonetta's final boss is exactly what you're looking for.

Painkiller has some pretty big bosses as well.

Also, one I'll never forget is TidalWave from the PS2 Transformers game. What size is this guy, you ask? It's a fucking aircraft carrier that transforms into a robot... go figure.

I am playing through Shadow of the Colossus at the moment for the first time. I was fucking speechless when I saw this guy and realised I had to fight him.
I won't be able to play it again until Saturday night because it was my cousin's copy and that is when I see him next.

Lost Planet: Colonies has a game mode called Akrid Hunter, it's 12 humans versus 4 random Akrid.

<youtube=IL1bNdXBRY8>

You can't really take down an Akrid by yourself, even if all 12 players are shooting it, it'll still take a while. There can still be some pretty intense moments though, like if the Akrid is going after you. It's hilarious.

You want a giant leviathan doing what?

The Fallout 3 mod Wasteland bosses is pretty good. You may enjoy Darksiders too, you spend all the time fighting things bigger than your Dwarfy War.

This man might be onto something!

I like epic monsters but only occasionally, if i have to fight something huge it shouldn't become the norm for the game. Otherwise it dulls the entire experience, however i still intend to get lost planet 2, just for the four player lulz.

There are some pretty ridiculously big and HP'd up monsters in the FF series. The earlier the FF, usually the more beard the monster too especially if you have been doing the walkthrough and the find the omnipresent Ultima Monster.

Admit it, from the moment he first appeared you wanted to insert a Scarab gun into that stupid plant face.

Also, I second Fallout 3 Wasteland mod.

I know a trick in killing the third colossus on normal. After you're done stabbing the mark in his head, stab him in the eye and let go when he flings his head back. If done right it saves you the tedious task of climbing down to his belt. Though if done wrong....I think you know...

IT: I dunno anything more epic than SOTC and lost planet. I guess Demon's Souls is pretty god. Not terribly epic, but definitely hard(ish).
*brainstorms*
Wait a freakin minute. I forgot a very epic game. Patapon.

Demon's Souls has some of the best bosses.

Almost all of them are so big, they're screen filling.

See here:

The first Ridley battle from Metroid Prime 3 comes to mind.

I was playing the game in the dorm with my roommate sitting at his computer. I get to an empty room, look around, look up, "HOLY SHIT RIDLEY" comes out of my mouth, and my roommate wheels around just as we crash through the floor. As this happens, I'm saying "oh no they're NOT doing that", the screen fades to black...and we are in-game, fighting Ridley in free-fall, ala Gandalf vs. Balrog.

"OH HELL YES THEY ARE!"
