This is one of the 3 Movie Bob reviews I actually somewhat agree with.

I liked the originality of H2, I enjoyed the fact that Rob Zombie incorporated more of his own campy shock horror into this one than the first, but I still enjoyed the first RZ remake over this one, simply because I love Halloween and his remake was the first welcome addition since the second Halloween.

Overall, I'd say around 7 or 8 outta 10.

You guys are all jackasses. I had no idea who the person he was hinting at was, and then only one person decided to use spoilers. Fuck you all. Infact, I reported everyone who mentioned his name without spoilers.
Did you really think people wouldn't try and guess at the hint in the comments section? Think instead of getting pissy and mass reporting.

I expected them to atleast spoiler it a little. Its not like everyones seen this movie. But your right. I should have thought that some people couldn't be asked to follow the rules and would just tell me. It was MY fault.

I haven't seen it, but I may be able to guess who it is:
Weird Al?

Nothing can compare to the first two Halloween movies by John Carpenter. I honestly thought that Rob Zombie's remake of the first one sucked a big one.
Yup.. Thought EXACTLY the same thing..

See, I have a problem here. Personally, I've seen the real thing a little too much, so I loathe gore for gore's sake. When I watch a horror movie, I want to be frightened not revolted. How 'splattery' is this movie (for lack of a better word)? Although I respect the man's creative vision, in his previous movies, Rob Zombie was far too gratuitous in his use of gore for my taste...

I'm probably a bad judge in this respect because - not to play "braggy-movie-geek-show-off" or anything - I don't know that I've seen an American horror film in YEARS that can shock me with gore compared to the stuff being done in Japan, Hong Kong, Italy or even France lately. But, for what it's worth, I don't think the film is unreasonably gory and it's DEFINATELY not doing gore-for-gore's sake.

Zombie's other two movies, "House" and "Rejects," were for-fun exploitation movies - it's all about "Dude!! Check out how awesome it looks when the guy get's stabbed with a ______ in the _____!! Sweet! And dig how oddly-complimentary this iconic mid-70s Southern Rock tune I'm laying over it is! Sick, right!!??"

The two "Halloween's" are working an ENTIRELY different vibe, both in execution and intent. There are no "cool" or "iconic" kills in these films, and ones that could've been are filmmed so as to minimize their picturesque-ness. Zombie's Myers isn't a "death artist" like Jason or Freddy or even Otis in Zombie's other movies, he's just a bruiser plowing through anything that gets between him and his goals, killing when he needs to and only occasionally "setting up" dead victims as props for traps. He uses a knife (or whatever) because it's convenient, but mostly he's all about size and strength (Tyler Mane, who plays Michael, is about 7'2 and Zombie frames him to look more like 10) beating his victims to death.

The kills themselves aren't "showy," and the bloodletting looks mostly like it'd really look instead of cool art-designed splatter. Most-importantly, IMO, is that NONE of it is played for "fun." Most of the victims are innocent and not set-up to 'deserve' anything, and instead of the "bam! one-hit and she's down!" money-shot kills in Jason movies these people die horribly, slowly and there's nothing "fun" about it. And after two films in a row, I'm convinced that this is an intentional move on Zombie's part: He's deliberately sucking the momentum out of the murders, refusing to let the traditional slasher audience "enjoy" themselves.

wow I'm amazed how many other people thought it was Weird Al. If that's true then I might rent it (no way I'm paying theater price) just to see what he's doing in a horror movie XD

I've been watching MovieBob's reviews for some time now. And I've strongly disagreed with many of his assessments of certain movies. As a longtime Trekker, I thoroughly enjoyed Star Trek. I thought Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, while technically a flawed film (whose shortcomings I chalk up to the writers strike more than anything else, as the screenplay felt like it could have used a bit more tweaking), still managed to be a fun rollercoaster ride (I could care less about the original comics or toys they were based on). And I thought Up, while highly enjoyable, sounded pretentious and was stretching to compare it to the works of Arthur Conan Doyle, Edgar Rice Burroughs or even the movies of Werner Herzog. I am, however, surprised at the about-face he did on G.I. Joe, considering it was as equally ludicrous as ROTF, even though technically it was a more coherent film.

However, I thought he was right on the money about Rob Zombie and his directing style. I've always been torn, because while I love his music, I can't really say the same for his movies. I thought House of 1,000 Corpses was a terrible movie and almost unwatchable. And while I had a lot of friends who saw The Devil's Rejects and loved it, I have yet to see it because I feared it would be more of the same. I passed on the first Halloween too, because I hadn't heard many good things about that one either. Like MovieBob said, what works in Metal doesn't always work in movies. And Like MovieBob, I always had trouble trying to figure out when Zombie was being serious and when he was fucking with us. Then again, I'm not as much of a Horror movie conoisseur as I am Science Fiction. So maybe I'm not as in step with those kinds of films.

I also agree with MovieBob about the constant presence of Sheri Moon. Really, does she have to be in everything he does? I mean, she is a hot piece of ass and all and the character of Baby was one of the few things I liked about House of 1,000 Corpses, but yeah, at this point it's like he's just showing off now.

I think, though the question of whether or not Rob Zombie has a good film in him will be answered next month when his long-in-production animated movie, The Haunted World of El Superbeasto gets released directly to DVD. Somehow, I think the fact that it's an adult animated film that's a comedy will work better with his campy/kitschy over-the-top approach. What I've seen at least looks promising anyway.

Wait? An accordian? Does that mean...Weird Al???!!! 'Da Fuck! Most go to confirm somewhere...I was sold at Brea Grant being in it, but if Weird Al's there too, I have to see this.
Seconded. It's not enough that the movie is directed by my former favourite singer (seriously. That wasn't enough to get me to see either Rejects or the first Halloween), but it also features my former favourite comedic singer as well? I will see it... just maybe not in theaters.

Just got back from seeing it. I do agree with alot of points in your review.

The more of Zombie's films that i see, the more convinced i am that he really has the soul of an artist. There are moments of incredible depth in this movie.. Much more then you would expect!

Though alot of people are just not gonna get it or be able to appreciate it. There were more then a few walkouts in the theatre i was in, and alot of attempts to MST3K the ordeal. It's too bad, because....as a woman i was speaking with said to me leaving the theatre:

"It's like the difference between Sushi and Mcdonald's."

This is cinematic sushi for the astute horror-fan.

He has a very minor role. Chill out. And the movie isn't even that good. The acting was... a bit... bad.

I can't argue with most of the review (which was quite entertaining), but saying that the Remake Part 2 was better than Part 1...I don't think I'd have scoffed up my Diet Coke so hard if you hadn't said it with such conviction. Sarcasm?

I get it Rob, you want us to buy in to the whole "sympathy for the devil" thing because you identified with the monsters when you were a kid. (I did too: Darth Vader was the best thing ever until I realized boobs exist.) But the problem is that it's so forced. So ham-fisted. And you're just not getting better at handling it. After setting up Mosley's character in House of 1000 Corpses as a "wacky" serial killer who just finished raping 30 cheerleaders to death before he came on screen, it's a bit of a stretch asking me to cry over him as he's eating lead in weepy slo-mo at the end of Devil's Rejects. It's the same thing here.

Let the villain be a monster. Let us be frightened of him, not for him. Let us hate him. Don't try to trick us into thinking about his feelings, because then we're confused and the murder machine is now just a sissy with a big knife.

Arg. I got to the credits, clicked away, and just as the next page was loading, I heard 'Wait! Wait!'. That made me jump. I had to backtrack and wait for the video to reload so I could see his extra message.

Also, Weird Al! Wow, I don't even like horror movies but now I want to go see this just for that.
