I'm a bit confused that of all the IP they have access to, they chose one to film that already has a well entrenched competition in The Fast and The Furious franchise.

But Koenigsegg??

And McLaren P1.

And the Lambroghini Sesto Elemento.
Yeah, I spotted the Koenigsegg in MovieBob's video and was like "Okay, now I'm mildly interested..."

...just not interested enough to actually buy a ticket.

Brilliant video, Bob. I got dragged to this movie earlier this evening and kept wishing it could be over. It was insanely boring, which is weird to say about an action/racing flick. Either the film's story itself is genuinely interesting or the action scenes are least fun enough to watch if you let your brain go a little numb. Those can both be good reasons to watch action movies. This movie really is neither of those. Wouldn't mind having it on as a movie the background of my web-surfing and gaming, but wouldn't really want to sit down and watch it.

Poor Aaron Paul. Really, the entire cast in Breaking Bad is incredible in their roles, so you want to hope those actors have a bright future past television and into film. Maybe he is, or maybe his role in Breaking Bad just suited him so well. I wouldn't mind seeing him in something else in the future, but he's not really a leading role kind of actor.

Good vid as always Bob, hit the fine points and what not. That being said I'd like to focus on something that's been bothering me. Thankfully you showed a clip at the end of the video; the Flash. Why? I honestly feel like screaming that at the sky all dramatic like, but I'd only get noise complaints. Of all the superheroes DC has, why Flash? It's not that I hate the character, I just think he's less deserving of a film than anyone else in the JLA. If this is going to be an origin story a chunk of the film is him getting his powers under control. Otherwise what's the challenge to someone that can move at the speed of light (if not faster) Which means the only possible opponent he could face would be another speedster or just someone/something that robs him of his powers. It has been awhile since I've read a Flash comic, but I do recall Mirror Master being one of the few bad guys that gave him serious trouble. Or is this going to be the watered down Flash we saw in the cartoons? Tripping over rubble and crashing into walls? Why not Aquaman? I'd think they'd jump at the chance to create Atlantis as some vast underwater metropolis. Martin Manhunter might have been more interesting. (although I can't recall his true origin atm)I just have a feeling it's going to be a repeat of Green lantern, promising, but a little flat.

Just going to say it: I think Aaron Paul is a pretty bad actor.
Yes, he fit Breaking Bad but I have the feeling that is going to be one of the few places he fit. I personally don't even rate him in Breaking Bad either. I think he was good because of everything around him and he sort of fit the part.
No surprise that he sucks in this then.

I really was secretly hoping this would be good, simply for how awesome the cars would look, but no. Personally i hate the new need for speed games, its niche was street racing with customizing cars that are over the top and they should of based it of that, for example car in game
that would of been cool in a movie that was what need for speed is know for instead we get stuff like this

Generic boring expensive exotic cars that look like any F and F movie ones. Shoot even fast a furious did in better in one movie

See those cars, THOSE are what needed to be in this movie THOSE capture the personality of need for speed cars, but its EA i guess they were not content with IP milking games, now they need to do it with movies too.
I get what they were going for - in the F&F franchise, the cars themselves are "yet another custom charger/mustang/camaro". No-one really cares what's under the hood, what matters is the personalities of who's driving it (and to a lesser extent how that personality reflected in how they've pimped their ride). No-one particularly cares if they swap cars 3-4 (or more) times during the movie, it's all about the ride.

But F&F dominates the personality war - Diesel, Walker, Rodriguez, Gibson, Ludacris, The Rock. I can understand why the decision was made "Let's make it more about the cars" again. The cars featured in N4S aren't just "yet another exotic car" - these are limited edition concept cars that make millionaires cry when they read the price tag. The Agera alone costs over $4million, with the Veyron around $2million. AND they're featured in the games.

The problem is these concept cars are so niche they're unlikely to pull in audiences by themselves - 99.9% of people have probably never heard of Bugatti or Koenigsegg, and when they hear Lamborghini and Ferrari they tend to think of the models you can pick up for "only" ~$75k.

I can understand WHY they wanted to take a different angle than "101 Custom Muscle Cars", but I don't think the angle they chose is going to put butts on seats.

This movie will most likely bomb and EA will use that as an excuse to say "Alright then, no Mass Effect movie!"

It's a sad state of affairs when we have to support a shitty movie in order to get the possibility of seeing a slightly less shitty movie

I don?t really get the point of calling this movie need for speed, ea should adapt a game that actually has a story like mass effect.

Is the yoshi island thing a spoiler? because If not im really currious what bob means.
NO! You leave Mass Effect alone dammit! It only just barely survived that ending fiasco, we don't need EA fucking it up even more with another movie(because EVERYONE remembers the anime one with Jacob...)

OT: Christ I thought that title looked familiar. Good God EA, didn't you learn anything from Square Enix or Uwe Boll? YOU CANNOT MAKE A GOOD VIDEO GAME MOVIE! And then even if you do, you stray so far from the source material that it has no right to be called as such anymore(Resident Evil you bastard).

Nothing personal, but I see these comments all the time, and they're just so irritating. There were SIX Need for Speed games before Underground, none of which featured major car customisation. The recent games in the franchise are actually returning to the series' roots.

Thats why i said it was its niche, the games got their peak of popularity from those customization style games, i am well aware that they started off as standard style racing games but personally the underground onwards games would of just made for a better movie.

SO let me get this straight...

EA... is double-timing as a FILM company now...

And, if Need For Speed is any indication, only planning to film their B-fodder and C-fodder IP for "just so okay it's fine to watch once, but is promptly forgotten within a week afterwards" films.

...Man, the future of video-game movies is SO screwed by now! Seriously, when is Hollywood going to make good video-game movies? Are we going to have to wait 20, 50, or 70 years for that to happen, like we did with comic-book movies? Are we going to have to wait until we're all grandparents before we get to see video games adapted to actually good films?

Edit:
I think the reason Aaron Paul is "bad enough to be irritating, but not bad enough to reach Nicolas Cage levels of crazy" is because the movie forces him into a stereotypical good guy role, while his role on Breaking Bad was an unabashed villain that only qualified as anti-hero by default, and didn't have to be reigned in by a need to keep the language PG-13.

I mean, when Jesse Pinkman's ANSWERING MACHINE MESSAGE (see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubjc7XjznMc) packs more character and humor than Toby Marshall's entire white-knight McCrackerbread rascal-with-a-cause that this film corkscrewed Aaron Paul into, the boring-bad acting has less to do with Paul himself (at least I hope), and more to do with a bland script giving no good dialogue, and an even blander director that wouldn't allow real acting on the set if it had his entire family taken hostage.

The New Yoshi's Island scene is one of two things:

1. A "Here we go again!" situation.

2. How you deal with an unexpected pregnency in the Mushroom Kingdom.
I think Bob means it as a "Oh if ONLY the stork really WILL bring the babies to Brooklyn".

He's kind of got a... thing... for that.

First time I heard about a NFS movie I wasn't impressed because with a material such as the complex storyline of this VG serie, what could possibly go wrong?
I remember the NFS story was pretty much driving your car from A to B trying to finish #1 but I might remember that wrong...
I cant wait for the Burnout movie!
