I'm probably going to check it out anyway, just for the visuals.

The movie really isn't going to try to be innovative and different from a story-telling aspect especially with the amount of money shelled out on the detail on the animation plus being aimed at children from what it seems.

I was actually kind of angry you weren't gonna spend an episode about Drive Angry as I'm about to reserve 2 tickets for tonights show, but thanks for telling us it's awesome anyway.

The Zakim Bridge certainly is pretty.

On that note Rango does look gorgeous, it's a shame the story doesn't back it up. I also have to agree with Flatfrog that Pixar's strength comes from it's stories. The visuals are nice but they compliment the story rather than the other way 'round.

Yeah, I thought Piranha and Drive Angry would suck, but your reviews told me otherwise...that they're somewhat enjoyable if not outright awesome. They really hurt themselves by dismissing the new media B-movie fans and circumventing reviews, even if a movie isn't a straight laced classic film like movie. Speaking of, I do love me the classics, but I'm not afraid to enjoy new elements in film. Especially action, I love action movies so much I'm going to go see Drive Angry with my brother now. XD

Things I Love About Living In The UK no. 7

Movies and Games come out later so we get the reviews about a week earlier.

(Plus I could already tell that Drive Angry was going to be great and if that sex scene is more over the top than Shoot Em' Up the awesome factor is all the way up to 11).

I had no idea that was the plot for Drive Angry. The trailers projected yet another lone man with nothing to lose movie. That quick little review made me interested in it.

In the UK, Drive Angry got into the public spotlight via the always popular Top Gear. That's actually better publicity for some than some critics.

Wait...

Nicholas Cage has sex whilst shooting up a bunch of bad guys? That's totally ripped off from Shoot 'Em Up. And there's no way in hell it'll be as good as that was!

It's spelled Tanuki. Just an FYI.
But fuck yeah, I support that. That was my favorite item from Mario 3. Put on the Tanuki suit, gain the ability to fly and turn into a Jizo statue. How much more awesome can you get?

On a note related to the video, I kind of expected that of Rango from the trailers.

The scene from Drive Angry sounds exactly like the scene from Shoot 'Em Up, only with Jack Daniels. Still, sounds like a good movie...

Edit:

Hmmm, Good animation and lots of movie-references? Well yes, that DOES sound tempting.
By the way, here's hoping someone from Hollywood gets the 'give everything a screening'-message.

Off topic: For a guy who has explicitly posed himself as a furry-hater, Bob sure likes his Tanookis...

I actually had a job as security for movie screenings a while back. It was an interesting gig, it made you feel like a super badass. I would go to the theater (dressed in a suit of course) and use a password to open up a case containing the yet unreleased film. Then we would scan the theater, searching up and down each row for anything that someone might have tried to sneak in, like a hidden camera. After that we waited for the people to file in and the movie started. While it was playing we would (I shit you not) use night vision goggles to scan the audience. Anyone using a camera, audio recorder, or even a cell phone would be immediately escorted out of the theater.

What was especially nice about it was that after the first twenty or thirty minutes you don't really have to worry about people trying to pirate the movie, because who wants to pirate only half a movie? After that you would basically get to watch the movie, before it came out, and get paid for doing so.

So, in summary why this was the best job I've ever had;
-Get to wear a suit to work and look like a badass
-Use night vision goggles
-Refereed to as an "agent"
-Get paid to watch unreleased movies

(Wait, did Bob just say the movie is made worse by how mediocre the script is compared to the amazing visuals? Well crud, Avatar is the worst movie ever made!)

Also nice work brushing through any sort of vague "Actual review" in favour of deciding to weave a tale about your process. Here's an idea: Have a full episode so you can actually REVIEW the movie, then a full episode on the inner workings of the review process during a slow week. Don't act like "Well I don't have much to say about Rango" is a valid comment, you don't get any kind of magazine article cutting their reviews to half the length because the reviewer got bored, nor would I be forgiven for giving in a half-done english paper because I lost interest in the text.
