REPO MEN IS A BIG PHAIL TRAIN!!!
It's bodily ripped off from Repo: The Genetic Opera.
They practically used the same goddamn script.
So yeah.... anything that is seen as original in this movie is actually ripped off from Repo: The Genetic Opera.
But whatever.
From my understanding, Repo Men is based on a novel which came out a year after Repo the Genetic Opera, so they're worse: it's a copy of a copy of an original.
I'm surprised he didn't mention Repo the Genetic Opera in his review. I'm sure he's seen it or at least I sure HOPE he's seen it, hint hint nudge nudge. Cuz it's teh awesome.

Have you thought about reviewing heavy rain? I'm interested to see what a film critic would think of it.

I'm glad to see people actually commenting on how Repo Men has the same exact premise as Repo!. I still don't get how not many people have picked up on that. Also, did the writers get permission from the guys who made Repo!? I have a hard time believing they did. I don't think that they would let someone else take that concept and turn it into a shitty action movie.

"[Film X] is just ripping off [film Y]! Oh no!"

Every good film is ripping off something that has come before in some manner, bad films do it unapologetically. Yeah, Avatar was just Dances With Wolves mixed with Pocahontas and all that. Read up on some Joseph Campbell and you'll find that everything shares tons of commonalities, but you know what? It doesn't matter. Just let the different angle on the story be the part that entertains instead of nitpicking about where the idea came from, because I guarantee you Repo: the Genetic Opera wasn't the first either.
you bring a surprisingly valid point to mind..
its like how you could take 1000 pictures of the same exact thing, but yet all the pictures are quite different

Man, your top-three list made me grin like a child. I thought I was the only one who loved those. And you mentioned Old Boy and Zwartboek, which makes this officially the most awesome video on the internet.

Good review, but I've never heard Carice van Houten's name being pronounced any worse.

I know dutch is hard, it took me 7 years to learn it too.

You pronounce the name: Ka (as in Karate) Ree (as in Reese) S (as in snake), van (the a as in water), Hou (like How) ten (as in... well, ten).

I'm sorry if I seem like a grammar Nazi, but if you are willing to learn how to pronounce Antonioni or Godard you must be willing to learn some other names too.
Haha, it freaked me out as well.
Foreigners & Dutch don't ever mix well

I wanna see Repo Men

I'm not going to rant about my dislike that Repo Men is stealing Repo! idea - it's been said and argued to death. However, if MovieBob is interested (and he reads this board, though it is highly unlikely) I definitely would recommend the original Repo to him.

I thought exactly the same thing. And Repo: The Genetic Opera was better.

So yea... well done on being an absolute complete rip-off! :D

Liked the 'Old Boy' segment and liked the fact that it's Neo-Toronto.

Though they probably should have filmed at yorkdale subway station for the complete sci-fi look.

(prepares to get his Repo! fan-ness out of his system quickly) All together now...Zydrate comes in a little glass vial...

Seriously, though, I'm giving this movie a pass, not because it steals from anywhere (I'll skirt around that difficult discussion, thank you), but because, being the omniscient bastard I am, I saw the ending coming, I don't really like endings that go that way. It saddens me and leaves me feeling unfulfilled. And that pisses me off even more than the "It was all a dream" endings that keep popping up in films these days like malignant growths on a diseased phallus.

I'm confused. Do you mean give it a pass as in, "I'm skipping this one" or as in, "It doesn't fail"? If the former, how can you skip a film that you apparently have already seen (what with the seeing the ending coming and all). I'll assume you already know the reason for my confusion with the latter, (what with the seeing the ending coming and all).

There are so many plot holes in this movie, you could throw a cat through 'em.

Disappointed none of that was addressed here.
