REPO MEN IS A BIG PHAIL TRAIN!!!
It's bodily ripped off from Repo: The Genetic Opera.
They practically used the same goddamn script.
So yeah.... anything that is seen as original in this movie is actually ripped off from Repo: The Genetic Opera.
But whatever.
Thank you I have been saying this since i first saw the damn trailer, I am a bit surprised Bob did not bring that up when talking about the other sci-fi movies it "borrows"(should just say straight up stolen) from

The second you started to describe it, my thoughts were, "oh no, its Equilibrium again..."

I personally thought Equilibrium was a pretty lame movie, so selling Repo Men as something similar isn't going to work on me.

Gore isn't really a selling point for me either, so I think I'll just skip this one.

Ya know... Before I saw this I thought this movie was just a lame ass rip off of Repo! The Genetic Opera. Now I think its a cross Repo! and Equilibrium two films I absolutely fucking love. I will now be going to see this.

Whoa, I was expecting bob to tear this movie a new one, but after this I'll consider seeing it, just to see the audience's reaction, that and the trailer got my attention a few months back.

You know what, I don't give a shit, this looks good and I'm gonna see it.

Also, sounds like MovieBob really liked Equilibrium (as did I)... I wonder what he thinks of this: http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/teamt/fbv/bmbe/8526-equilibrium

Repo! The Genetic Opera, indeed. However, this one looks like it's going to be much more srsbzns and have some better acting, PLUS less singing and dancing which for me, makes it quite awesome. There's also a lack of Paris Hilton in this film which makes me quiver with joy.

I completely agree that this is probably a huge ripoff of Repo: The Genetic Opera, but I've also gotta go with Bob on this one and say the difference that makes the difference is in the details. I haven't seen the movie, but from what I can tell Repo Men focuses mainly on the action(that did seem to be it's main selling point in this review at least). Repo: The Genetic Opera on the other hand focuses heavily on the motives and themes(justice, betrayal, addiction, and love) all set in an opera form. It's entirely possible they're both great at what they do, but for me it really comes down to what you like.

I wish it was more like Genetic Opera, Jude Law and Forest Whitaker breaking into song while cutting people up ^_^ all sorts of fun there.
Repo Men seems to take place in a cleaner brighter world with and dark underbelly. While in REPO! it's just dark, gritty and gorey with no point to trying to hide it. The worlds could be more like close cousins of each other. Though the worlds are similar, their stories are different. Repo Men seems more about a story of redemption and journey for Jude Law character (which reminds me of Logan's Run actually). While REPO! Genetic Opera is a coming of age story for Shilo.

Well that's how I see it. Maybe I'm just more forgiving then others. ^_^

Yep, ripoff. Although instead of being "artsy" and a musical, we have another American action flick.

"[Film X] is just ripping off [film Y]! Oh no!"

Every good film is ripping off something that has come before in some manner, bad films do it unapologetically. Yeah, Avatar was just Dances With Wolves mixed with Pocahontas and all that. Read up on some Joseph Campbell and you'll find that everything shares tons of commonalities, but you know what? It doesn't matter. Just let the different angle on the story be the part that entertains instead of nitpicking about where the idea came from, because I guarantee you Repo: the Genetic Opera wasn't the first either.
jeepers creepers was about some...demon? that ate organs and then grows itself that organ.

yea maybe gentic opera was inspired by the taking organ thing?

or is there some OTHER movie like this and repo?

Monty Python: The Meaning of Life? Just before the galaxy song, two guys show up to take the guys liver.

The Island, and Clonus were also closer than Jeepers Creepers regarding organ taking, I suppose.

Wait... A setting that seems somewhat Cyberpunkish... With Jude Law... I'm sold.

I don't normally comment on featured content threads, but I came on with the express intention of pointing out how much this thing rips of Repo!... However I seem to have been ninja'd several times. Suprised Movie Bob didn't pick up on it.

You're absolutly right. However, the two movies are chasing completely different core audiences. Considering that and the casting, where's the harm? You know that when Law and Whitaker knew this was a fun paycheck film and will try to outdo each other when on camera together.

you should see it because its sick.

Well done on selling it there so no thanks.

Seriously gore gets mentioned in a giggly childlike fashion nearly every review that happens to be above a 12A cert on this board and as soon as it gets mentioned the mind starts going "BLAH BLAH BLAH BLOOD, GORE OMFG SICK MAN, BUCKETS LOL BLAH BLAH BLAH WHATEVER" and like that sentence its pretty infantile.

If the selling point is "hur hur sexy surgery OMFG man gotta watch it!" then its definately a check out later when its on the shelves because im tired of the retarded controversy everyone tries to sell to you when they basically want to TRY THEIR HARDEST to be the most hardcore.

Good review, but I've never heard Carice van Houten's name being pronounced any worse.

I know dutch is hard, it took me 7 years to learn it too.

You pronounce the name: Ka (as in Karate) Ree (as in Reese) S (as in snake), van (the a as in water), Hou (like How) ten (as in... well, ten).

I'm sorry if I seem like a grammar Nazi, but if you are willing to learn how to pronounce Antonioni or Godard you must be willing to learn some other names too.
