The video pauses for me as well, around 3:24. And before any smug jerks ask if I "refreshed the page", I'm going to bring them through my own little exercise in deductive reasoning.

Fact 1: I am not an idiot.
Fact 2: My job involves working with computers.
Therefore, we can deduce Fact 3: YES I KNOW HOW TO WORK A COMPUTER, PLEASE DON'T POST UNHELPFUL, CONDESCENDING, PATRONIZING BS IN RESPONSE.
This still happens for me, too, and I updated Firefox and Flash and even tried in in IE with the same results.

I would say I have a problem if it weren't that it was happening to others at the same point (3:24). Therefore, there is some compatibility issue based on something I couldn't hazard to guess.

The video freezes at several points... if I click later in the timeline it'll run, then give the "buffering" for eternity

"But in terms of personality, Robert Downey Jr's Holmes is in some respects closer to the text than most of the others that came before. This is really the first time anyone's really gone for the sketchy, disheveled, undiagnosed-OCD aspect of this character, and Downey really is a joy to watch in it."
THANK YOU. I'm so tired of these reviewers calling it a "disappointment to Doyle fans" because this Holmes is a little bit of an adventure-seeker and a talented fighter. (There was even this mystifying one that claimed to be a well-read Doyle enthusiast and then claimed the film "invented" Holmes' skill in martial arts. Adventure of the Empty House much?)

People who read the Holmes stories, especially those who've read any of the novels, have no excuse for not understanding the deep-rooted and sinister personality disease behind the character. Downey is the perfect actor to depict Holmes himself, but I agree with your last line - the BEST adaptation by far has been House, M.D..

House... as Holmes?! Nope, not seeing it.
Well, maybe you ought to look harder, because the House=Holmes/Wilson=Watson similarities were explicitly intended by the show's creators. And they're there. (Yes, House's team helps him solve the mysteries - but most of his "aha" moments come when he's talking to Wilson.) This was an intentional adaptation.

Well, I haven't seen the movie yet, but I knew Robert Downey Jr. would be great in this movie - I mean, he's just such an awesome actor, how could he not be? I'm pleasantly surprised about Jude Law, as well, to the point where I'm willing to forgive the apparently medicore plot and actually pay to see this movie.

I'm still on the fense about Downey Jr. playing Holmes. All the actors in Britan and they got an American to play him?
Yes but Robert Downey Jnr is amazing with his accents.

See: Tropic Thunder, where he is an american portraying a negro portraying an Aussie. His Australian accent was very good.

I don't have any doubt that Robert Downey Jnr will pull it off well, and Jude Law promises to be excellent as well. It's a shame the plot won't stand up to the characterisation and I hope the chick in it is in a strong female role.

I'm really looking forward to going and seeing this in a few hours.

Also, I managed to be able to watch the whole thing... Perhaps it is the server being accessed heavily during the Christmas holidays.

I liked the review...

...But by the trailers I think Sherlock Holmes has been Americanised! If there is anything worse that can happen to good literature or film, it's Americanisation!
Before this review, I would have agreed with you entirely, given the fact that the whole intrigue and mystery of it seems to have been totally replaced with a dim-witted special-effects-ridden action flick.

Having MB's input, your post is deliciously ironic.
It seems Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had it pretty 'Americanized' from the start: straight and simple, he did it for the money.
He didn't give two shits for continuity or respect for the source material (even if it came out of his own damn head) but just kept it up because it was a franchise that payed.

Not at all disappointed with the lackluster plot, I didn't expect much from Guy Ritchie and Hollywood's collective brains coming together for this.
Am immensely pleased to learn that Robert Downey Jr. managed to not only pull off but perfect a portrayal of a stuck-up (so-and-so...etc.) British detective mastermind.
RDJ and Jude Law certainly look the part and having executed their debut reasonably well, they can set the stage for a movie series that can gradually find its feet (Robert Downey may have his Capt. Jack Sparrow here).

Well, the reason I never liked Sherlock Holmes that much before was because I found the series a little too dry (older film versions and not the actual source material).

The problem with this movie is that they've americanized it too much to be an action flick.

In any case, somewhere in between, and maybe leaning a bit more towards this version would have been a well deserved film for the SH name.

Just my two cents.
