I was really glad to hear Bob write such a great review. I have read a few lack luster reviews, but they are from people I somewhat don't always see eye to eye with. Thus far Bob and I seem to have similar tastes in movies and I am looking forward to seeing this next week!

This is going to be possibly the most compelling films of the past decade. Can't wait to see it. But I have to since tonight is Paranormal Activity night!

The whole theme of "childhood is slipping away" always turns me away as I've spent the last 5 years of my life giving a defiant finger to maturity and this just reminds me I've nearly finished school.

But the monsters look awesome!

Wow, so MovieBob liked this film? and hated the Cat in the hat?.

Well I'm glad, I've not seen the cat in the hat, because my favourite book of all time is "Green Eggs and Ham", and I will never watch Dr Seuss being butchered.

SO what will restore Bob's faith in humanity?.

I hope the next one is a shitty movie. I don't know, maybe I just like listening to people butcher other's work, when it's half assed of course.

The review was great, but please... get a microphone. It's very distracting to hear your voice echo in your empty room. A close-to-the-mount mic will greatly improve the audio quality of your voice, making it easier to hear as well.

What would restore his faith in humanity? How about this ----> The Halo movie comes out and nobody goes to see it.

I really, really, really want to go see this. It was one of my favorite books as a kid, and a positive review for the movie only makes me more excited.

I'm thoroughly shocked that he enjoyed this movie. I haven't seen it and had no intentions of ever going to see it. Maybe it's time to rethink that position. The steady stream of incoherent and sloppy remakes that have been raiding my childhood memories has made me a bit cynical. I'm glad to hear that there may be a small vanguard in Hollywood still trying to produce meaningful work.

Referencing Calvin and Hobbes? That's intelligent because the kid who sees those comic are mischief and a boy wrestling a imaginative doll while adults see the comic as more philosophy of John Calvin and Thomas Hobbes. I read those comics as a kid and only look at their mischief, not even understanding the full text what it means. Now, as a understood adult, I also read the texts carefully and see that most of their chats are from 2 real philosophers as I said above.

That's a really good comparison to "Where the wild things are." Kudos Moviebob.

Just a question to you personally Bob (With-out being too creepy as to private message you) what would restore your hope in humanity?. I'm not trying to be sarcastic or even funny, this is a legitimate question and what you would think a film would need to do in order to restore your hope in humanity.

As a young media student hoping to get into directing this is the kind of information is important to me.
I don't think any film (or type of art, really) is capable of doing that for anyone, unless it's a real-life photo or video clip depicting... I dunno, an ice-cream man jumping between a wheelchair-bound toddler and a bullet, something like that. Or, rather, if it IS then the person in question isn't all that hopeless to begin with.

If you're going to make movies, make them because doing so fulfills you creatively first and let "restoring" or "inspiring" come with the material (unless it's a documentary, which is a whole other story.)

You do know the Halo movie was going to be made by Neil Blomkamp? Of District 9 fame? Go back and watch Bob's review of that. Pay close attention to the extreme, enthusiastic (and entirely justified) praise. If this guy makes the Halo movie, it might actually be good.

On the topic of THIS review: Damn this film looks interesting. I couldn't agree more on the whole discussion on what kids do and do not find scary. I'm getting a very Neil Gaiman Coraline/Graveyard Book vibe from this film. Completely awesome and straight forward for kids, utterly terrifying and incomprehensible for adults.

I'll probably see it, but I'm not the target audience any longer in neither age nor mindset. I'll probably recognize its genius and praise its beauty and everything else, but whether or not I'll actually enjoy it will be a completely different ball of wax altogether. But hey, I loved the book as a kid and if this is as excellent an adaptation as Movie Bob says it is, why shouldn't I enjoy this movie?

My little brother is almost as cynical as they come. He loathes the world and humanity in general, so it was with some anticipation that I received a text message from him about six months ago.

OMG!!! THERE MAKING WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE WATHC IT

From that point I was going to see it anyway, I'm just so glad they actually understood it.

BTW, Calvin and Hobbes should be MANDATORY for anyone being a kid or about to have a kid. Bill Watterson, you are a legend and I salute you.

Now if they could only get "The Hungry Caterpillar".

Spike Jonze, Calvin and Hobbes, The full lot! I'll defintiely check this out, especially with the complex C&H analogy behind it.
