GODDAMIT BOB!

I was all set to say 'I told you so'! I even went digging through my old posts to find the quote where I said you were only going to say that 'Your Highness' was worth seeing for the sight of Portman in a thong.

Why couldn't you revert to form, just so I could mock you? One measly reference? For shame.

I think now I've defined 'Unpleasable fanbase for the good people of the Escapist...

I'm not too interested in this, more of a 'buy it when it's in the bargain bin of a TESCO' than 'pay good money to see it in cinemas.' It's like Ebert said about Loaded Weapon 'you're trying to parody a series that has a toilet exploding.' Fantasy is just silly. You have a world where phrases like 'Vampirates' or 'Hogwarts' or 'Nyarlathotep' are actual valid terms used in everyday conversation.' Either you have a measure of self awareness or you play it so absolutely straight faced that the only humour that can posibly be derived from it is ironic.

Parodies of fantasy in general, rather than a specific series, fail because you can't parody a genre that already by now has to take itself with mountainous piles of salt. So yeah, it may well be worth watching for a chuckle, but for me it's already failed on the conceptual level, let alone the realised level.

If you like Pineapple express you'll like this movie. Thats all you needed to say. Not gonna watch this at all... of course if its as much as a "phenomenon" as Pineapple express was i'll see it plenty on boring drunk nights where everybody says lets watch a movie.

You know is that me or there actually very little fanasy/adventure movie that are good?

I think it has to do with the exposition and inconsistence that a magic base system are easier to mishandle in a movie than in book, because of time limit and a variety of other factor.
Seems to have more to do with the acting to me. Either they turn in dull performances, or else ham it up to the 11. The characters also tend to be cardboard cutouts of stereotypes and the scenes are cliche and paint-by-numbers. Dungeons and Dragons could've been pretty good with a better writer and better acting.

How many people (myself included) have now rushed over to Amazon trying to find a copy of Hercules?

I find Hasslehoff's Starcrash is another prime contender for the 'so bad it's good' category.
FWIW, "Hercules" is on Netflix Instant in some territories.

"Starcrash" is actually from the same director, Luigi Cozzi - although the U.S. prints usually said "Lewis Coates" in order to hide the fact that they were Italian productions (by the early 80s, the budget-theater circuit was so saturated with cheap Italian imports that people started getting wise to the idea that lots of Italian names in the credits probably meant low-budget knockoff.)

What do you mean "If" D'n'D had stoners? That's what the players are there for.

Thanks for the recommendations

Gods... I'm so glad my players aren't stoners. They're already big enough morons as they are now...

I honestly didn't care for this movie. I guess if you are looking for humor injected into D and D scenarios, I'd look no further than Gamers: Dorkness Rising. Your Highness had some good one-liners, but I felt pretty disappointed. I feel that every known actor in it has done better comedic work elsewhere. The movie's not terrible, by any means, but if future me (who just came out of the movie) could talk to past me (who hasn't seen it), I would recommend myself to stay clear. Maybe a rental...when drunk with my buddies.

Also, I seriously need to find and watch Hercules. It is my new quest.

Bob was close, real close.

Danny McBride was on Conan the other night and said that the movie came about from a game he plays where one person says some phrase and the other has to come up with the plot for a movie with the phrase as it's title.

Your Highness was "There's this prince that gets high and he has to fight dragons"

Sounds just like an ACTUAL D&D campaign.

Complete with over serious guy

Landwhale playing as tough no-nonsense warrior chick

and That Guy

A man chuckin' a bear into outer space. XD You made my weekend!

My favourite fantasy flick is Krull. Not because of the batshit insanity, but because it's a good movie for all of it's cheesyness.

Yet, there will be a second Dungeons and Dragons movie and I am seeing now: D&D attracts cliché. So it won't work that well on screen. -_-'

I have never actually played DnD without stoners.
