So I've recently decided my brake from education is over (I graduated high school last year). I plan of going to university in September and since my English 12 grade was too low (by less then a percentage) to get into my choice school I'm currently upgrading through an online course program. Trouble is (As made apparent by my presence on the Escapist) I'm having trouble staying on task. So as part of the most counter-productive plan imaginable I'm seeking help from my fellow Escapists. Any tips on how to stay motivated?

How do I escape escapism?

can you update me to on that one? imminent university failure doesn't seem to be enough for me to want to do anything.

I set one hour at night when I need to get work done. I find it's short enought to do and not to long. I normally set it late 10-11PM. It's when the family has gone to bed and I'm still very awake. This only really works if your not that swamped with work.

You need to do this work on the computer right? On a site? So disconnecting the internet isn't an option. Just before you start work check all your sites. Think of it as a setting up time. Then close all unneeded sites & programs (msn, facebook, whatever) and don't talk to anyone. It's best if you tell who ever is in your house not to distract you for this hour.

Slowly increase the hour until you feel you no longer need to. I did it by around 10-15mins. It sure beats the other option of putting if off until the weekend then doing nothing but study for two days straight.

Solid advice, thanks

I might want to get rid of my iPhone for that hour as well. Angry Birds has been my biggest distraction as of late.

If all else fails just think of all the pussy you'll get to slay when you go to uni.
You just described my sole motivation to go back to school =)

There was a period of time in December where I asked to be suspended from here so I could have my productivity improve. Sure, I could still post in user groups but the forums were really more my style anyway. If you have more control than me, you won't need to ask for a suspension.

Recently I've been making a list of what to do in a day and adhere to it TO THE LETTER.

But I have no idea what will work for you. Everyone is different when it comes to motivation.

Either find something you particularly enjoy doing, or think about the consequences if you don't do whatever it is. My experience is the former works a hell of a lot better than the latter.

Go to a course. Those sometimes help.
