Escapist Advertisements.

Alright, just so you understand, this is not a tirade against all the ads found on the Escapist site. This is only against like one of them. Owners, operators, and maintainers of the Escapist, lend me your ears for a second. In most cases, when you put an ad on the videos, I don't care. We get past it and the video plays. Not a problem.

But when you make it so trying to play a video makes the entire screen an advertisement, it actually screws everything up. Essentially, the whole-screen-thing is a pop-up with the video in the middle, which begins to play. The problem is that the video on the screen that you just left is also playing, and it's not in sync with the one you're looking at. You therefore have an unenjoyable mess. Also, getting rid of the ad brings you back to the screen where the video is both not loading and playing the sound from the video still? Not right, yo. In fact, massive screw-up.

I know you need ads to support the site and blah-de-blah like that there, but these ones don't work. Please nix 'em and return to the original 'ad first, then video' setup, at least until you make it work right.

I think the problem is limited to a few people. I have never had a problem with these ads and still don't. The video in the back doesn't even seem like a video player to me its just a link in a video shape. I make that guess because I can click any part of it and it just takes me to that popup.

And if you are complaining because a little bit of lag or just the syncing being a little off then your being nitpicky.

That's never actually happened to me, but I imagine that would suck. If you really have a problem with it, shouldn't you contact a mod or admin?

If you dislike it, another option would be to join the Publisher's Club, although I think the technical glitch is limited to only a few people as I didn't have that problem when they did it. The video on the regular site stopped playing and this one ran smoothly although it was a small surprise to me when I was watching.

This shouldn't be possible. The way those ads work is that the 'video player' on the video page is just an image. It can't play a video at all. The player isn't on the page until the skin opens.

If anyone is having this problem, please let us know what OS/browser you have and, if you can, try to take a screenshot of it screwing up. You can email it to [email protected] and we'll try to reproduce it (and then fix it).

Totally not the solution to something being broken. If someone doesn't like the ads in general, then yeah, that will take them away. But everything is still supposed to work properly.

Huh there is advertising in the pop out window? Awesome add blocker plus blocks those adds too. I love that add on more and more every day. So if you don't like the advertising get ABP and if you do for some reason... get it anyway cos it is awesome.

Better alternative is the aforementioned Publisher's Club. That way, funding doesn't get stripped from the site, and you get Ad-free, and other bonuses.
