Escapist forums are best, but why?

Everybody on here knows that the Escapist forums are way better than other forums. The fact that I won't get cussed out for having a different favorite color than someone else is my favorite part, but what do other forums do wrong that the Escapist does so much better?

The moderators are efficient, the community is generally open-minded, mature, and respectful.

Very few flame wars (I don't think I've seen any yet, myself) too.

Mainly, for me anyways, is that I have actual conversations here...

Strict moderators: They make sure the trolls stay away. For the most part anyway.

Great community: Apart from the angst and sense of elitism, (the latter is shown in this thread a little), this community is very fun to be a part of and the people here actually seem like real people.

Actual discussion: This goes back to my first two points, but when you combine strict moderators with good people, you end up having good conversations.

I think that's why, anyway. ^_^

I think it's because there is a large population of mature users here. The mods also seem to be fair and non-abusive, as opposed to the ones on every other forum I've been on.

Forums have been degrading over the past while, but still good boards.

Having some of the best talent in movie reviews (Moviebob) probably helps too.

I came into this thread and found that someone has already expressed my thoughts.

I mean really, the Escapist may be a good website but there are plenty of other good websites out there. The Escapist is no inherently better than any of them, at least when it comes to the forums. There are no requirements for joining the Escapist. Any person can enter this website and stay here. So the "idiots" that populate other websites could easily come here, and in my opinion some of them already have. It's just that a lot of people let their egos blind them into thinking otherwise, since I guess it's preferable to think that these forums are better than everything else.

I don't really care about this forum's quality. As long as I have friends to talk to, I'm fine with it.

Plus, if the Escapist was perfect, I wouldn't be able to argue with people!

I'd like to believe that's why! I've been a forum-whore for waaay too long, and I've rarely found a community as relatively civil as this one. And, considering how active it is here, that REALLY says a lot.

Yes, that's true, buy I'm yet to find a forum (other than the Escapist) that has interesting topics, non-abusive moderators, very few trolls, and enough users to have multiple interesting threads a day like the Escapist has. Any forum with all of the above requirements is definitely a great forum. And the Escapist is the only website with all of those things that I've found.

We come here to meet friends, talk games, share silly moments in our lives and lose hope for humanity , etc. etc.

I think it's because if someone yells FIRST! they get kicked out immediately and we all tend to be accepting of everyone and any ideals except in the rare cases where someone will get over-dramatic about religion or politics.

EDIT: And my avatar will hypnotize you into liking the site if you stare at it long enough... or make you try to assassinate The Duke of Pannekoeken... I've had mixed results.
