NB: Please keep this limited to technical features you wish the Escapist Forums had. No mod griefing, please.

Well, the Escapist forums have a lively community and are generally very well managed. I like coming here a lot and give kudos to the admins and mods who keep the place running. But there are always times when I wish it could be better, if only because I like the place so much.

As you can see (look left) I've only been on this forum for a relatively short amount of time. Since I started posting, however, I don't remember a single technical upgrade being made, which is truly amazing and commendable if you compare to (for example) Facebook's ridiculously frequent overhauls. And I'm sure the Escapist team has limited funds and time, so this won't be their top priority.

But, I can't help but gripe sometimes about technical features I wish the forum had. I'm sure everyone does this occasionally. So here's a chance to put all of them in one place.

1. The ability to highlight text in a post, press "Reply with Quote", and only get the part of the post that is highlighted copied into your reply. This kills me almost every time I post and has been implemented by other forums I regularly frequent.

2. The ability to click through from one sub-forum to another without going back to the main forum menu. Basically, having 'Gaming Discussion', 'User Reviews', 'Off-topic', etc be drop down boxes instead of the current 'The Escapist Portal > The Escapist Forums > Off-topic Discussion' format we have. Edit: Got told.

3. A 'View all replies on one page' option for those of us who like to reply to multiple posts and don't like opening up many copies of a page just to find all the people we want to quote. I think this would also help a lot to keep a discussion cohesive and non-repetitive because then you're more likely to read (or at least browse) all the posts in a thread instead of just clicking through to the last page and randomly spamming an opinion that's already been aired 30 times. It also helps you to track upwards faster to find a quoted post.

The ability to expand the bar that shows your friends and groups. There's a blank space right above the latest news area, and I'd love to fill it.

There is a forum jump option at the bottom of each page.
Thank you, I never noticed that. So scratch my second gripe.

EDIT: Also, to expand on my reasoning behind my first gripe:
Making quoting sections easier will, I believe, lead to more quotations in general and therefore more conversation. So it's good for all involved and will get the Escapist more page views.

1. you can either delete all non-important info or just bold it

2. it's down at the bottom

3. what about the threads that are over 100 or even 1000 scrolling all the way through would be a mess.

Regarding 1: yes, but it's an ease of use factor. Making something easier to do will make it more popular, thus contributing to the success of the forums.

Regarding 2: Yes, I got told.

Regarding 3: That's why it should be an 'option'. Or at least, have an option in User Account preferences to choose how many posts you want at a time.
