Well I just came across this story of the North Carolina studio closing, and operations being moved to Los Angeles/Seattle. Thanks to a particular tweet someone posted on another site. And I haven't seen any thread here or in site announcements oddly. Guess no one other than the staff caught wind of this.

Escapist isn't being shut down though like GT fortunately. Would hate to see another site suffer the same fate as GT, which is left with a skeleton community. And this place is quite active with a good community overall. So I hope activity continues on as usual, but this is worth noting.

Well, if this is a sign for the future of Escapist, then we must prepare to find a new place...
I would love to say NeoGaf, but it have a weird kind of steps to become a member. Is it true you need a paid email to be a member?

Don't know for sure about NeoGaf's email policy. But I will say as long as activity remains around its current level or higher. The Escapist should be fine as its still profitable to keep running. More so since staff has been significantly reduced and reportably replace with cheaper and flexible (easier to terminate) contractors.

I've been through two community migrations with GameTrailers. And the most recent one is prettier than the last. The community will be split in the event of an actual shutdown process, since there's not going to be a site everyone likes or is similar to what people here like about the escapist.

GT's previous migration due to private forums being eliminated, ended badly with hundreds of members permanently leaving GT to custom sites. Like forumotion and one privately owned site called Square Alliance, made by GT members of the Kingdom Hearts faction. Once activity eventually took a noisedive on isolated sites with no source of recuritment, those communities died out. The Square Alliance site had tech and funding issues leading to its closure, and the community split.

Yea I figured after being suddenly told you're all layed off. The Escapist staff is going through the phases of suddenly being told you no longer have a job here. So they're understandably not in a rush to tell the world their story as they have to be at peace with what just happen. And start making plans for the next phase of their life.

I've been layed off too, hours before what would be my last shift so I know how it feels. Fortunately the escapist staff is entitled to unemployment payments. So they won't be starving.
