I need something to do on the internet. Preferably something that won't make me feel like I'm wasting my life or just reading shit that I'm not actually interested in.
And if anybody has some advice on motivating myself to do homework, that'd be a great help too.
Please?

Damn. I was gonna suggest TVTropes, but then you said you don't want life-wasting content. And if you don't want a life-waster, what the hell are you doing on The Escapist?

But on the subject of motivating yourself, try this:

Divide your homework up into 4 or 5 equal parts. After each part is completed, have some sort of reward (a snack, a half hour of gaming, etc.). That's what I do and it works phenomenally well for me.

Trying not to waste it, I suppose. Gives me something to do...

Anime usually works, or MST3K clips if you wanna set yourself in a good mood before homework.

Read "The Salvation War". I found it quite enjoyable.

Watch the Epic Rap Battles of History videos on YouTube. Or watch some LPs, I personally find Jef Major a great Let's Player.

Hmm I do know the feeling. Think of a hobby or interest, and research it on the net. learn something semi usefull from youtube, im helping along guitar lessons with some video's, and that dont feel like its wasting time.

that or just, make plans for world dominance.

I usually just watch old Escapist vids or mosey around the forums but they do seem to be pretty quiet recently...
YouTube? Nah, that gets dull
Miniclip? Loads of quality games there

You have a good sense of humour, so start a blog, and send me the link to it! I will even design the page art for you if you want, honestly, I will. I am in the same boat.
Also read: XKCD, Darths and Droids, DM of the rings, SMBC, Penny Arcade. If one is not your style, move to the next, but I think you will love Darths and Droids. Anyone would...

As for the homework... jeez... uhm... it is Your FUTURE damnit! Do you take IT or programming of any sort? If you are of above average mathematical ability and like computers, then take that subject, making your own programs is fun, even if they are crap XP (I would know...).

There's nothing on the internet that's not a waste of time.

You could learn how to hack. That's always fun.

...er, in a purely hypothetical way, because this is an activity illegal in the United States, which I would never, ever condone. Never. No matter how much fun it might be.

With regards to motivation to do something like homework, set yourself a reward for doing it. For example, for every hour of work, treat yourself to a half hour session of your favourite game, and make sure you have someone on hand to make you keep to the rules you set yourself. Or something like that.

As for fun things to do on the internet, I refer you straight to your favourite webcomics, or to the game Hex Empire (search for it on Google and it's the first hit) - an amazing and addictive strategy game...

If you like writing, try roleplaying or "RPing", it's a form of collective writing to make a work of fiction and many forums host a section for it including the Escapist.
