Are there any weird and random things that you've seen on the forum that have left you wondering?

For instance, what is the deal with that gold star badge? All it says in the description is "You... you've earned it." Honestly, I'm not trying to figure out how to get it myself, it's just driving me crazy not knowing what it's about.

And also, what is up with NewClassic's pictures of kittens? Seriously, man, what the hell?

The gold star is almost as bad as the ponies badge, which, if you ask me, makes no sense. It's description is just the word "Pony" repeated.

Hmmm...possibly why people value the opinions of the long term escapists more than someone who has been here for only about a month or so. Seniority has never really sat well with me. But then again, this can be said for just about anything.

Good point Erana. Do you capitalize Escapist? It's a proper name so grammar rules dictate that it must be capitalized but at the same time, look at the logo. Small e. So...which is it?

I'd like to think that the entire purpose of the gold star badge is to drive you and other like minded people crazy.

I'm not actually allowed to say what the deal with it is, death threats were made.

1. How did Jim Doki change in the two weeks I was away from "I love everyone" to "I hope you all choke"?

2. Where did Ninja Chicken go? He wasn't here for very long, but I noticed his name in an old thread recently and wondered what happened to him.

3. When is the next escapist election?

From what I have heard, the star, like the pony badge, is a special badge given out a staff member. In this case, the member giving out the badge is Can't Fake The Funk. But that's just what I've heard.

As for my questions:

How did a thread about ducks last 5 pages?

How did holly take over the site?

What's with the sudden surge of new members?

I've always been curious about the "Thanks!" badge, if only because I've yet to make heads or tails of it. I've been theorizing on it constantly, and every theory I've come up with took some testing, then fell apart. I honestly think for it to work, I'd need to become an actual editor for the Escapist, which isn't likely for the next 2 years at least, considering I'm still in college.

My particular mystery is my Italicized Name, which I cannot for the life of me figure out why. There are very few people with one-such names, and those that are are either big time big deals, like [user]Joe[/user], or even Yahtzee (who doesn't post aside from his videos). I would think it's just a contributor thing, but people like RAKtheUndead and Hey Joe don't have it, despite being contributors like myself.

Then I thought, maybe the user title? But no, neither Gigantor nor Decoy Doctorpus have it, both being winners of review contests in the past. I'm not sure.

Lastly, I'm still enthralled by the Pony badge. I'm convinced there's a reason for it completely unrelated [http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a395/NewClassic/Kittens/01_04_52---Kitten_web.jpg] to what conventional discussion has come up with, I'm trying to decide the exact point, but it keeps eluding me. I swear, ponies have become elusive creatures because of this...
